Abstract

An apparatus and a method of additive manufacturing is provided. The apparatus includes a light source configured to emit light between 0 and 500 nm in wavelength. At least one vessel is provided that includes a chamber and a transparent base. The chamber contains a volume of liquid print material. The transparent base being made of Fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) or Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) through which the relevant wavelength can be received into the chamber to cure a portion of the volume of print material through at least one mask, the at least one mask being made of paper, polymer, glass, metal, composites, or laminated substrates, the at least one mask defining a series of patterns associated with layers of a three-dimensional (3D) object, the at least one mask being position-able between the light source and the transparent base, via a mechanism, wherein the at least one mask defines the pattern of the light that is received through the transparent base and into the print material.

An additive manufacturing device can include one or more light sources, a vessel containing a volume of print material and a transparent base through which light can enter the vessel to cure a portion of the volume of print material, and a set of masks defining a series of patterns associated with layers of a 3D object that are each positionable between the light source and the transparent base to control a pattern of the light that is received through the transparent base and therefore the pattern of the cured portion of print material.

Abstract

An additive manufacturing device and a method of fabricating a 3D object is provided. The device includes a vessel configured to rotate about an axis and a membrane disposed to form a floor of the vessel. A build plate is movable between a first position and a second position, the build plate being positioned a predetermined distance apart from the membrane in the first position. A light source is arranged to direct electromagnetic radiation through the membrane towards the build plate. A processor is provided that is responsive to executable computer instructions for rotating on a periodic, aperiodic, or continuous basis, the vessel to oxygenate the membrane.

A method and system for additively manufacturing an object is provided. The method including flowing an interface fluid (105) into a vessel (103), the interface fluid (105) having a first density. A photopolymer (106) is flowed into the vessel (103), the photopolymer (106) having a second density, the second density being less than the first density. A build plate (108) is disposed within the photopolymer (10), the build plate (108) being positioned a predetermined layer thickness from an interface (110) of the photopolymer (106) and interface fluid (105). At least a portion of the photopolymer (106) is irradiated with a light source (102) to define a first layer of an object being fabricated, the portion of the polymer being disposed between the interface fluid (105) and the build plate (108). The build plate (108) is moved in a direction away from the interface fluid (105) a predetermined second distance.
