Abstract

An electroactive material comprising a polyelectrolyte made up of a charged polymer with amino groups, in which at least 1% of said groups are derivatized with a complex made up of a transition metal and a glycoside residue. Preferably, said transition metal is selected from among Group VIII transition metals and the glycoside residue is selected from among carbohydrates containing glucose, mannose, galactose, N-acetyl glucosamine and N-acetyl galactosamine residues and the oligosaccharides and polysaccharides containing them. The material of the invention may be used in the manufacture of electrodes. In particular embodiments, the material may be used as an electronic tongue for the recognition of microorganisms or be electrically bound to microorganisms.
