Abstract

A dead shaft pulley assembly (10) includes an elongate, longitudinally extending pulley shell (12) and an elongate, longitudinally extending pulley shaft (14) to support the pulley shell. The dead shaft pulley assembly (10) further includes at least one roller bearing (20. 22) operatively adapted to facilitate pivotal movement of the pulley shell (12) about the pulley shaft (14) while the pulley shaft (14) remains stationary. The dead shaft pulley assembly (10) includes at least one end plate (26) located towards one longitudinal end (16, 18) of the pulley shell (12). The at least one end plate (26) defines a bearing recess (24) in which the at least one bearing (20, 22) is located. The dead shaft pulley assembly (10) further includes at least one seal assembly operatively associated with the at least one roller bearing (20, 22) providing a sealing fluid cavity (40) for holding a volume of sealing fluid.

Abstract

A seal assembly (10, 110) has an inner seal carrier (14, 114) with seals (16, 116, 18, 118), an outer carrier (30, 130) with inner curved surface (144) matching an outer curved surface (146) of the inner seal carrier for angular pitch adjustment of 3° to 5° for the inner seal carrier within the outer carrier, a flexible seal (36, 136) between the outer carrier and the bearing housing (28, 128), and oil within a cavity (20, 120) between the seals, preferably above atmospheric pressure. Shoulder bolts (140) allow lateral movement of the seal assembly with respect to the bearing housing. The seal assembly allows for misalignment and lack of parallelism of the shaft relative to the bearing housing whilst preventing contamination of the bearing.

Abstract

A dead shaft pulley assembly (10) including an elongate, longitudinally extending pulley shell (12) and an elongate, longitudinally extending pulley shaft (14) to support the pulley shell (12). The dead shaft pulley assembly (10) further includes at least one tapered roller bearing (22, 24) operatively adapted to facilitate pivotal movement of the pulley shell (12) about the pulley shaft (14) while the pulley shaft remains stationary. The dead shaft pulley assembly (10) also includes at least one pressurised oil seal assembly (30, 32) operatively associated with the at least one tapered roller bearing (22, 24). In use the at least one pressurised oil seal assembly (30, 32) deters the ingress of contaminants into the at least one tapered roller bearing (22, 24).
