Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for selectively removing sulphur and/or sulphur containing contaminant compounds from a gas flow which includes a method for regenerating spent aqueous absorption liquid. The spent aqueous absorption liquid is regenerated by converting the solid metal salt into solid sulphur and/or a solid sulphur containing compound and converting the corresponding metal salt into the metal ion in solution with aid of a polyvalent second metal (which is the strongest oxidiser). The regeneration process may consist of four process steps: regeneration, oxidation, extraction and crystallisation.
