Abstract

An assembly of a rim (la) and the tyre (2a) thereof for a bicycle, the rim (la) being intended to receive the tyre (2a), characterised in that the rim (la) comprises two lateral shelves (6a, 6b) intended to serve as supports for two bead cores (8a, 8b) embedded in the carcass of the tyre (2a), while the rim is formed from a hollow circular profile section, forming a ring with a large axis diameter, which is formed from a first wall (3) referred to as the internal wall, and a second wall (4) referred to as the outer wall, while said first wall (3) has a curved section of which the curvature is turned towards the axis of the wheel and provides the wheel with mechanical strength and holds the set of spokes linked to the hub, and the second wall (4) has a curved section of which the concavity is turned towards the wheel axis, forming a hollow profile (5) intended to engage with the corresponding tyre (2a) in order to positively retain same, and the profile section of the rim comprises two lateral support surfaces (6a, 6b) at the two lateral junctions (7a, 7b) between the first wall (3) and the second wall (4), said two support surfaces (6a, 6b) being lateral shelves arranged on either side of the general plane of symmetry (Y, Y') and forming two cylindrical support surfaces.
