The tool includes a nozzle body defining a through-bore extending along an insertion axis, and a mandrel adapted to reciprocate and rotate within the bore. The track defines a channel extending along a first centerline for the travel of inserts disposed in the channel and to the installation tool. The device is mounted to the track and includes a shuttle adapted to intersect and move in the channel. The shuttle defines a through-bore having an axis aligned to the first centerline when in a first position for acceptance of an insert from the channel, and is aligned to a second centerline for expulsion of the insert from the track and into the installation tool. The second centerline is offset from the first centerline, and intersects the insertion axis.

The core bolt includes a cylindrical portion, a threaded portion with an external thread, and a thread runout between the cylindrical portion and the threaded portion. The core bolt is disposed within the sleeve and the external thread engages the internal thread. The insert is disposed within the sleeve and encircles a portion of the core bolt. The insert abuts and is retained between the internal thread and the thread runout in a pre-installation position. The insert is compressed between the internal thread and the thread runout by an installation motion of the core bolt simultaneously with a generation of a compressive load on the sleeve. The insert deforms simultaneously with and facilitates a formation of a bulb in the sleeve in response to the compression.

Abstract

The invention relates to a plate connector (1) for electrically connecting two, in particular plate-shaped, components (A, B), each of which has at least one through-opening (2). The plate connector (1) comprises a tension element (10) having a longitudinal axis (I), an expander portion with a sectionally conical and/or curved outer surface, and at least one coupler (11, 51, 81), and an electrically conductive, plastically deformable ring (20) with a longitudinal axis (II), a sleeve section (25) surrounding the longitudinal axis (II) and having a through-opening for receiving the tension element (10), and an abutment collar (23). The ring (20) is made of a softer material compared to the tension element (10), and the length of the expander portion in the direction of its longitudinal axis (I) is less than or equal to the length of the ring (20) in the direction of its longitudinal axis (II). The outer surface of the expander portion has a first section (13) and a second section (14) spaced from the first section (13) by a groove (15) wherein the outer diameter (D1) of the first section (13) adjacent the groove (15) is smaller than the outer diameter (D2) of the second section (14) adjacent the groove (15). The outer diameter of the second section (14) expands in the direction away from the groove (15).

Abstract

A fastener includes a sleeve, a core bolt and an insert. The sleeve includes a tubular portion and an internal thread.

Abstract

An automated installation system, constructed to install tangless helically coiled inserts, includes an installation tool, a track, and an insert separator device.
