Abstract
A concentric split flow filter may be configured to remove odor and/or bacteria from pumped air used to collect urine and fecal waste products. For instance, filter may be designed to effectively fill the volume that was previously considered wasted surrounding the transport tube of a waste management system. The concentric split flow filter may be configured to split the air flow, with substantially half of the air flow to be treated traveling through a first bed of filter media and substantially the other half of the air flow to be treated traveling through the second bed of filter media. This split flow design reduces the air velocity by 50%. In this way, the pressure drop of filter may be reduced by as much as a factor of 4 as compare to the conventional design.

A first heat source is coupled to a first end of the capillary container to define an evaporator section and a cold sink is coupled to a second end of the capillary container to define a condenser section. A capillary pump includes an evaporator and a reservoir configured to store an additional supply of working fluid. A second heat source coupled to the evaporator is configured to vaporize the working fluid arranged therein. A fluid loop couples the capillary pump to the heat pipe. Upon detection of a predetermined condition indicative that a majority of the working fluid within the heat pipe is frozen, the capillary pump is configured to supply vaporized working fluid to the heat pipe.

Abstract
A water recovery system includes a sorbing bed, a desorbing bed, a heat pump and a controller. The sorbing bed receives a first fluid stream and absorbs and/or adsorbs water from the first fluid stream. The desorbing bed is aligned with and thermally connected to the sorbing bed, and receives a second fluid stream and desorbs water to the second fluid stream. The heat pump is positioned between the sorbing bed and the desorbing bed and transfers heat from the sorbing bed to the desorbing bed. Abstract
A method for controlling microbial growth in potable water stored in a vessel having a metallic surface includes heating the metallic surface to a temperature between about 480° C. (900° F.) and about 870° C. (1600° F.), exposing the metallic surface to oxygen during heating to oxidize potential reduction sites on the metallic surface and charging potable water containing silver ions to the vessel. A vessel having a metallic surface is prepared for long-term storage of potable water containing silver ions by heating the metallic surface to a temperature between about 480° C. (900° F.) and about 870° C. (1600° F.) and exposing the metallic surface to oxygen during heating to oxidize electropositive metals on the metallic surface or by treating the metallic surface with an aqueous solution containing on oxidizing agent to oxidize potential reduction sites on the metallic surface.

Abstract
An example method of sealing a laminate assembly includes preloading a laminate assembly having a plurality of laminations, pressurizing the laminate assembly, and pressurizing an enclosed volume disposed adjacent an end portion of the laminate assembly to hold the laminations in sealed positions.

Abstract
A compact field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based digital motor controller (102), a method, and a design structure are provided. The compact FPGA-based digital motor controller (102) includes a sensor interface (206) configured to receive sensor data from one or more sensors (104) and generate conditioned sensor data. The one or more sensors (104) provide position information for a DC brushless motor (108). The compact FPGA-based digital motor controller (102) also includes a commutation control (210) configured to create switching commands to control commutation for the DC brushless motor (108). The commutation control (210) generates commutation pulses from the conditioned sensor data of the sensor interface (206). The compact FPGA-based digital motor controller (102) also includes a time inverter (208) configured to receive the commutation pulses. The time inverter (208) converts the commutation pulses into a rotational speed of the DC brushless motor (108) to provide a linear feedback control parameter.

Abstract
A heat transfer apparatus includes a first protective layer of a first metallic material, a second protective layer of a second metallic material, and a heat transfer layer bonded between the first protective layer and the second protective layer. The heat transfer layer is made of a metal matrix composite, such as aluminum oxide reinforcement dispersed within a copper matrix.

Abstract
An ECS system includes an ACM mounted adjacent an air-liquid heat exchanger through a diffuser that contains a diffuser plate. The diffuser plate receives airflow from the ACM which strikes the diffuser plate and flows radially outward and around the diffuser plate and into the air-liquid heat exchanger to provide minimal pressure loss and proper flow distribution into the air-liquid heat exchanger with significantly less packaging space.

Abstract
An antimicrobial coating slurry includes about 15.5 wt % of a wetting agent, about 6.0 wt % of an insolubilizer, about 1.1 wt % of a biocide agent, and about 7.8 wt % of an inorganic material that includes lithium oxide and the balance water. The slurry is applied to a heat exchanger surface, cured, and washed to form a hydrophilic coating that includes lithium silicate. The hydrophilic coating provides improved moisture wicking and a reduced dissolution rate of biocide, which is held within a lithium silicate matrix.

Abstract
An arrangement for controlling remote devices includes two networked computers. The first computer displays a first file that is stored on the first computer and the second computer displays a second file that is stored on the second computer. The computers send non-graphical commands back and forth to page up or down, zoom, or pan the displayed files in response to commands input into either of the computers. This allows an operator at either computer to view output corresponding to the commands input into the other computer. The first and second files are essentially the same and are retained on the respective computers, so there is no need to send relatively large graphical data packets over the network. Use of relatively small non-graphical data packets reduces the network bandwidth used.
