A personalized security document (10) includes a first personalized image (5) and a second personalized image (8) as part of a security feature (3). The second personalized image (8) is arranged at a position that corresponds to the first personalized image (5). For example, the first personalized image (5) is laser-engraved in a first surface (6a) of a laser-engravable material layer (6). The second personalized image (8) may be formed by laser-engraving on a second surface (6b) opposite to the first surface (6a) of the laser-engravable material layer (6). Alternatively or additionally, the second personalized image (8) may be formed by printing onto a substrate (1) of the security document (10) of the laser-engravable material layer (6) to form a personalized variable watermark.
A method of generating a personalized output image for a security document includes obtaining image information of a first image (16) formed on one side of a page of the security document (10), and a personalized input image showing a portrait of a holder of the security document (10). On the basis of the two images, a personalized output image (15) is calculated such that, when the personalized output image (15) and the first image (16) are viewed in transmission, the portrait of the holder of the security document appears. It is particularly advantageous to use a camouflage pattern, a broken-line pattern or a random pixel pattern as the first image (16) in order to obscure the portrait of the holder as much as possible.
An identification document (1) such as a passport booklet, comprising a cover foldable at a folding line (X), an end sheet (11) being foldable at the folding line (X) and attached to the cover, at least one sheet (10) being foldable at the folding line (X), and a closed circuit. The closed circuit comprises an electrical device (25) such as an integrated circuit (35) or a LED light (36) and a conductive thread (20) attaching the at least one sheet (10) to the end sheet (11). The device (25) malfunctions when the closed circuit is interrupted by means of manipulation of the conductive thread (20).
The present invention is directed towards a security sheet and a security booklet comprising a security sheet. The present invention is further directed towards manufacturing a security sheet and security booklet and a method of authenticating a security booklet. The security sheet comprises a plastic substrate having first and second outer surfaces, at least one opaque region at least partially surrounding at least one window and perforations extending between the first and second outer surfaces. The perforations form a first data element located partially in the at least one window and partially in the at least one opaque region.

A security booklet comprising i)a cover foldable about an axis; ii)a set of page sheets stitched together along the axis about which they can be folded to define a set of pages, wherein each page sheet is formed of a single fibrous sheet; wherein iii)one part of one of the page sheets laterally offset from the axis is adhered to the cover, while another part of the said one page sheet can be folded separately from the cover and the other pages about the axis.
A security element is provided for a document of value. The security element includes an array of apertures through at least a portion of the document of value, the arrangement of apertures relative to one another forming an observable data item. The array of apertures includes apertures of at least two different shapes or orientations, the occurrence of the different shapes or orientations within the array representing an encoded data item. Also provided is a method of manufacturing a security element on a document of value, including: obtaining a first data item and generating an aperture array template; obtaining a second data item and encoding the second data item within the aperture array template; and perforating at least a portion of the security document according to the encoded aperture array template.
