Abstract

The invention relates to baskets for casks for the transportation and temporary storage of fuel assemblies from a pressurized water reactor. The present basket for a transportation and storage cask for spent nuclear fuel from a pressurized water reactor comprises a base, to which are fastened, one above the other, steel discs and aluminium discs disposed between said steel discs. The discs are provided with two rows of openings. Channels are mounted in said openings. The basket is comprised of a single section and is provided with additional vertical elements for fastening the discs, said elements being arranged in a circle between the axes of the inner and outer rows of openings in the discs. The openings and the channels are circular and are capable of receiving canisters for spent fuel assemblies. The base of the basket is provided with grooves and detents for said canisters. The inner row of openings is comprised of two openings, and the outer row is comprised of eight openings. The invention makes it possible to uphold the dimensions of existing baskets of transport packages for pressurized water reactors and to improve the maintainability of the basket.

Abstract

The present casing of a transport package is a metal structure configured as a rustproof, hollow cylinder having a support disk that is perforated for receiving hexagonal tubes, and an inner part of the cylinder consists of a rustproof vertical element fastened to the center of the disk, said vertical element having spacing disks fastened thereon which have hexagonal tubes inserted therein for the installation of spent fuel assemblies. Moreover, the hexagonal tubes are one-piece rustproof tubes having hexagonal rings made of an aluminium-based boron-containing composite material placed thereon. Circular neutron-absorbing rings made of an aluminium-based boron-containing composite material and comprised of segments are arranged on the inner side of a shell of the casing, and an open space from the central vertical element to the shell is filled with molten aluminium.

Abstract

The invention relates to sealing technology and can be used for sealing protective covers of containers for the transportation and/or long-term storage of radioactive materials, and also for hermetically sealing flanged pipe connections, fittings, pressure vessels, and the like. A seal comprises a metal ring disposed between graphite layers, wherein the regions of the metal ring to which graphite is to be applied have a toothed profile, and graphite is applied to form rings on both sides of the metal ring so that the graphite layers and the metal ring form a seamless whole. Recesses are formed from both sides of the seal, between the rings of graphite, said recesses having openings in the centre thereof.

Abstract

The invention relates to nuclear engineering, namely to methods for long-term
dry
storage of spent nuclear fuel and casks intended for this purpose.
The invention allows increasing the safety of long-term storage of spent
nuclear fuel
by continuous monitoring the pressure of inert gas injected into the cavity
between
two lids of the SNF cask, which does not have direct contact with the inner
cavity of
the cask.
A method for long-term dry storage of spent nuclear fuel includes injecting
the inert
gas into a cavity formed in the cask between the inner and outer lids under
pressure
greater than the pressure of the inert gas in the inner cavity of the cask in
which the
spent nuclear fuel is located.
The spent nuclear fuel cask for long-term storage contains a body with a spent

nuclear fuel container placed in it, tight inner and outer lids forming a
cavity into
which the inert gas is pumped under pressure greater than the pressure in the
inner
cavity of the cask, while in the outer lid there is a labyrinth hole closed
with a flange
and sealed with a gasket, an angle valve is installed in the flange, to which
at least,
two pressure sensors are connected, an angle valve and sensors are covered
with a
protective cover during long-term storage, in the lower flange of which there
is an
annular groove in which the gasket is installed.

Abstract

The basket is a metal structure consisting of a base (supporting disk) (1),
heat-removing aluminum disks (2), intermediate disks (3), channels (4) for
sealed canisters, vertical clamping elements, in this case, strainers (5) and
(6).
Base (1) - welded structure made of corrosion-resistant steel performs the
function of the carrying element of the basket. From above, the base (1) has
(7)
grooves and (8) hooks for installing canisters.
Disks (2) and (3) are equidistant to each other in certain order, thereat two
rows of round apertures are made in disks (2) and (3) relative to their axes.
There are two apertures made in the inner row of apertures and eight - in the
outer. Channels (4) (pipes) made of boron steel are installed in the holes,
and
the channels are made with the possibility of placing sealed canisters with
spent
fuel assemblies into them. Channels (4) protect the sealed canisters (4) from
mechanical damage.
Sleeves (9) made of aluminum alloy are installed between steel disks (3)
and aluminum disks (2). Assembling all parts of the basket into a single
section
is ensured by strainers (5) and (6), located along the perimeter of disks (2)
and
(3), as well as around the circumference between the axis of inner and outer
rows of apertures.

Abstract

The invention is related to sealing devices and it can be used to seal protective lids in casks (containers) for transportation and/or long-term storage of radioactive materials, as well as for sealing flange joints for pipes, fittings, pressure vessels, etc.Task that should be solved by the requested invention is referred to production of the seal (gasket) for internal and external lids for shipping packages, providing double tight barrier and possibility to monitor tightness in both circuits of the seal. The seal contains a metal ring, placed between graphite layers, where sections of the metal ring to be coated with graphite have jagged profile, and as both sides of the metal ring are coated with graphite in such a way that graphite layers and the metal ring form a seamless whole. Recesses are made in the seal on both sides between graphite rings, a hole is placed in their centre.
