Abstract

Described is a process to obtain tetracosanol from a complex mixture derived from tall oil pitch that comprises terpenoids, rosin alcohols, rosin aldehydes, aliphatic alcohols, hydrocarbons and stilbene derivatives. The process comprises a mixture crystallization step from hexane and a fractional distillation of the crystallized solids, which yields tetracosanol with more than 90% purity.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for obtaining tetracosanol from a complex mixture derived from tall oil pitch, containing terpenoids, rosin alcohols, rosin aldehydes, aliphatic alcohols, hydrocarbons and stilbene derivatives. The method includes a step comprising the crystallisation of the mixture from hexane and the fractional distillation of the crystallised solids, thereby producing tetracosanol that is more than 90% pure.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the production of lignoceric acid from mixtures of long-chain aliphatic alcohols containing lignoceric alcohol, said method consisting in oxidising the mixture in a biphase catalytic system using quaternary ammonium peroxotungstophosphate as a catalyst and hydrogen peroxide as an oxidising agent, followed by a plurality of physical or chemical unit steps for the separation and purification of the lignoceric acid.
