Abstract

A semi-submersible floating platform (1) is configured for supporting and transporting a column structure (2), and comprises a plurality of buoyant columns (4a-c) interconnected by a support structure (5) having an adaptive opening (7) for axial and radial fastening of the column structure (2). Each column (4) comprises ballasting means (16, 17) whereby the draft may be controlled, and each column (4) comprises an active heave motion neutralization system that may be operated independently, such that the platform (1) may be maintained stable and level when handling the structure (2), for example during transit, separation and docking. A method of operating the platform involves the operation of valves (20, 22) to control the pressure inside a reservoir (12) in order to control the water level (11) in a rise canister (30) in one or more of the columns (4a-c).

Abstract

A single-column semi-submersible platform for fixed anchoring in deep water. The semi-submersible platform comprises a lower solid ballast module, a middle seawater ballast module and a top buoyancy module. The three modules are arranged telescopically in an axial direction and can be controlled relative to each other in the axial direction such that the semi-submersible platform may float vertically and steadily in a body of water. Draught for the seawater ballast module and buoyancy module is provided by seawater ballasting. The axial position of the solid ballast module relative to the seawater ballast module is controlled by seawater being pumped in and out of a closed annulus formed between the solid ballast module and the seawater ballast module.

Abstract

A system is demonstrated for heave neutralisation of semisubmersible platforms that can be built into any conceivable configuration of such platforms. That the system is also conceivably active and predicatively can be controlled can be concluded by analysing the appended calculation models. As an example FIG. 18, column E, is mentioned, wherein the water volume increments in the rise canister are 37 cubic metres for each half metre of wave height, so that, with reference to column A, from H=10.5 m to H=12 m is 4×37 148 cubic metres more than 150 tonnes—simultaneously with the air pressure, shown in column K, increasing from 123.86 to 131.05 kPa, a difference of just 6.19 kPa (0.0619 bar or 61.9 millibars). Large ballast volumes can be moved out and in of the system at small pressure changes and short response time.
