Abstract

A product testing apparatus is described as having one or more imager configured to capture one or more images of a sample having a substrate coating applied to a substrate, a processor in communication with the one or more imager, and a non-transitory processor readable medium, in communication with the processor, The non-transitory processor readable medium stores processor executable instructions that when executed cause the processor to receive the one or more images from the one or more imager. The processor then processes the one or more image by filtering lighting variations in the pixels of the image to identify one or more objects of interest in the one or more image of the cured / uncured substrate coating. The processor quantifies one or more property of the one or more objects of interest. The processor executable instructions then cause the processor to generate one or more signal indicative of the quantification of the one or more objects of interest.

Hydroxyethylcellulose with a low molar substitution and which is uniformly substituted is useful in cement-based systems, including mortars. The cement-based system exhibits long pot life, as well as very high water retention capability at hot temperature, as well as better paste stability and optimized setting behavior for hot as well as cold temperature compared to typical, cement- based systems with commercial cellulose ether compounds. The present invention relates generally to water soluble polymer powder formulations, and more particularly, to a cellulose ether formulation which in powder form is suitable for direct addition to water-based systems to produce smooth, lump free solutions. The cellulose ethers are crosslinked with an aldehyde crosslinker and include a dry weak acid which slows hydrolysis of the hermiacetal linkage formed by the crosslinker. The selected acid does not adversely affect solubility stability.

Abstract

A process for producing anionic, nonionic, amphoteric or cationic derivatized polysaccharide products which demonstrate high clarity in surfactant- based compositions. The polysaccharide polymer is reacted for a sufficient time and at a sufficient temperature in the presence of water, caustic, and at least one surfactant. The polysaccharide polymer may optionally be reacted with an oxidizing agent, hydrolytic or proteolytic enzymes, molecular weight reducing agents and a cationizing agent and nonionic agent. The formed derivatized polysaccharide has a lower clarity in water than in an aqueous surfactant system. The derivatized polysaccharide product can be used in personal care and or household care products.

Abstract

In this invention, a process for producing fermentable sugars derivable from biomass that contains polysaccharide, such as cellulose, which has been made increasingly accessible as a substrate for enzymatic degradation or other methods of depolymerization. The process of the present invention increases accessibility of polysaccharides, typically present in biomass and produces polysaccharides with increased accessibility. The polysaccharides with increased accessibility may be subsequently saccharified to yield fermentable sugars. These fermentable sugars are subsequently able to be fermented to produce various target chemicals, such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones or acids.

Abstract

Vinylamine-containing polymers are disclosed where the amine groups are substituted with (1) cationic functional groups, (2) anionic functional groups, (3) hydrophobic functional groups, (4) hydrophilic functional groups, (5) functional groups that impart amphoteric characteristics to the polymers, or (6) combinations thereof. Also disclosed are processes for preparing such polymers, as well as compositions comprising such polymers. Among other applications, these polymers can be used in papermaking applications as dry strength additives, wet strength additives, retention aids, drainage aids, and pitch and stickies control agents.
