Abstract

A system and method for converting an input AC voltage of a voltage source into an output DC voltage is proposed. The proposed system and method include at least two MEMS switches coupled in parallel with a corresponding voltage clamp switch within a MEMS rectifier. The MEMS switches achieve Zero-Voltage-Zero-Current (ZVZC) Turn on and Zero-Current-Zero-Voltage (ZCZV) Turn off through the inclusion of at least one high frequency switch and a current diverting circuit which ensure that when the at least two MEMS switches transition between an on-state and off-state there is no voltage or current present in the at least two MEMS switches.

Abstract

A line power extension circuit and corresponding driving and control methods are proposed to reduce a capacitor requirement (e.g., size) of AC-DC converters. In particular, a low-side line power extension circuit is proposed (e.g., having a MOSFET switch Q), along with approaches for providing a sensing and control circuit to decide when to turn on and to turn off the switch Q. Relative to an alternate circuit, the Low-Side Line Power Extension Circuit (LS-LPEC) provides different technical characteristics that can be benefit in various scenarios as described herein.

Abstract

Proposed circuit architectures are described that includes a first AC-DC power stage that can be used bi-directionally, operating in both forward and reverse modes. The circuit is configured for PFC operation where the input current is required to be sinusoidal in phase with the input voltage. A ripple cancellation converter can be connected in series with the output of the first AC-DC power stage. The AC-DC power stage includes a number of switched gates that are controlled for coordinated bi-directional operation. As described herein, a technical benefit of the first AC-DC power stage is a proposed reduction in a need for a large capacitor, which assists in reducing losses and increasing efficiency.

Abstract

Systems and methods for reducing common-mode (CM) conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise in full-bridge (FB) resonant converters is proposed. The FB resonant converter has a bridge circuit, a transformer, a resonant tank and a rectifier. The transformer has a primary winding and a secondary winding which are magnetically coupled. The primary winding is split into a first primary winding section and a second primary winding section. The first and second primary winding section contains winding turns P1 and P2, respectively. The resonant tank has a capacitor and inductor and is electrically coupled between the first and second primary winding section. The secondary winding is electrically coupled to the rectifier. The bridge circuit has two or more switches operating with a duty cycle, and is coupled to the primary winding in series with the first and second primary winding section.
