To this end, an apparatus for generating electricity by power of waves according to the present invention comprises: a float installed floating to sea; a motion transmission member with one end connected to the float so as to transmit the kinetic energy of the float; a fixture fixed on the sea ground under the float so as to vertically dispose the motion transmission member; a motion transformation device linked to the other end of the motion transmission member engaged with the fixture; a weight attached to the end of the motion transmission member arranged through the motion transformation device; and a generator installed so as to be operated by the motion transformation device, characterized in that the motion transformation device includes a chain arranged through a case so as to be connected to the motion transmission member with a given length, and sprocket gears having one-way clutch, the sprocket gears separated from each other respectively engaging with both sides of the chain and with both sides of a follower gear installed in a gear box.
