A bottom-gusseted package comprises a package body, and a bottom gusset positioned transversely of a longitudinal axis of the package body. Formation of the bottom-gusseted package is effected by positioning individual sleeves transversely of the longitudinal axis of a flexible web which forms the package body. Tape elements are applied in overlapping relationship to opposite ends of each individual sleeve. During package formation, the flexible web is cut to form individual packages, and each individual sleeve can be cut to form a bottom gusset in one package, and a top sleeve portion in an adjacent package. A top sleeve portion of the package body can be configured to include a recloseable fastener. The tape elements facilitate formation such that the packages can be formed and filled on an associated vertical form, fill and seal apparatus have conventionally configured heat-sealing jaws.

A bottom-gusseted package is disclosed which includes a bottom gusset positioned transversely of a longitudinal axis of the package, and a top sleeve portion including a recloseable fastener provided at the top of the package. In the illustrated embodiment, the top sleeve portion includes a peel seal, and a lock-up seal positioned above the recloseable fastener. This seal desirably acts to close the two layers of the top sleeve portion at the top of the package for a neat and aesthetically pleasing appearance. The top sleeve portion can also include a frangible region, and at least one grip strip on the interior of the top sleeve portion. The configuration of the package, and its method of formation, permit use with associated form, fill, and seal equipment.

A package having a recloseable pour spout is disclosed, with the package including front and rear package panels which may be joined at respective side edges thereof by inwardly extending side gussets. An upper edge portion of the package is removable, including one of the side gussets, to form a pour spout for dispensing the contents of the package. A fastener strip, which can be detachably connected to itself, extends between confronting inside surfaces of the front and rear package panels, adjacent to the pour spout, whereby the pour spout can be conveniently closed after the package is initially opened. The package can include a longitudinal seal which extends from adjacent the pour spout to overlap the fastener strip. When the package includes side gussets, the package may include an arrangement of corner seals, with the corner seals at the one of the gussets at which the package pour spout is formed not extending the full length of the package, thereby desirably facilitating shaping of the package to form the pour spout. A method of forming the present package is also disclosed.
A reclosable package including a reclosable fastener assembly is configured to facilitate pinch-gπp opening of the package by gripping and separation of front and rear panels of the package. The reclosable fastener assembly is configured to open and separate during pinch-gπp opening, without separation of the fastener assembly from the body of the package and/or delamination of the package body. Accordingly, elements of the reclosable fastener assembly are partially separated from each other, intermediate the ends thereof, to facilitate opening of the fastener assembly without separation of the assembly from the body. Alternatively, the fastener assembly can be configured such that one of the elements has a pair of flange portions for attachment to the package body, while the other fastener element has a single flange portion. The fastener elements are configured to preferentially separate in a direction generally away from that direction in which the single flange portion extends.
According to the invention, a patch is provided to be attached to the outside of the wall of the bag over the profile strip fastener assembly that is attached to the front panel of the package. The patch is made from a gas barrier type of substrate as to prevent oxygen and other gases from entering or leaving the perforations within the opening feature used to access the fastener assembly. The side of the patch that is in contact with the front panel of the bag includes an adhesive for securement to the package. A variety of adhesives can be utilized for securement depending on the arrangement of the perforations. Printing can be included on the outside of the patch to highlight the reclosable feature of the package thereby eliminating the need to modify the original printing on the package.
A package having a recloseable pour spout is disclosed, with the package including front and rear package panels which may be joined at respective side edges thereof by inwardfy extending side gussets.
