Abstract

A mixed mode programming method permitting users to program with graphical coding blocks and textual code within the same programming tool. The mixed mode preserves the advantages of graphical block programming while introducing textual coding as needed for instructional reasons and/or for functional reasons. Converting a graphical code block or group of blocks to a textual block lets the user see a portion of the textual code in the context of a larger program. Within one programming tool the mixed mode method allows users to learn programming and build purely graphical blocks; then transition into mixed graphical and textual code and ultimately lead to their ability to program in purely textual code. The mixed mode further allows users to program using any combination of drag-and-drop graphical blocks and typed textual code in various forms.

Abstract

An apparatus includes a housing, a rotational motor situated within the housing, an eccentric load adapted to be rotated by the rotational motor, and a plurality of legs each having a leg base and a leg tip at a distal end relative to the leg base. The legs are coupled to the housing at the leg base and include at least one driving leg constructed from a flexible material and configured to cause the apparatus to move in a direction generally defined by an offset between the leg base and the leg tip as the rotational motor rotates the eccentric load.

Abstract

The present invention includes a pair of boxing robots. Each robot includes at least one wheel and at least one arm controllable through a control system on the robot that is in communication with a user control unit, The control system has at least one axis of inertial sensing to support balancing of the robot, Preprogrammed algorithms are configured to include a balance algorithm to (a) maintain the robot upright during movement and actions, (b) maintain the robot upright upon sensing impact or force onto the robot, (c) cause the robot to fail prone upon sensing a strong impact or force (defined above a threshold) or sensing repeated impacts above a threshold number, and (d) create specified movement to mimic swagger, loss of energy, and additional wobble to imitate dazing. A set of preprogrammed instructions to (a) control wheels to move the robot, (b) control arms to mimic punching.

Abstract

A mechanical spinning robot toy includes a top section and a bottom exposed outer gear section. The top section resembles a robot possibly including a head portion and a body portion which may be integral. Any of a variety of arm-like appendages extends outward from the body. The spinning drive mechanism is within the top section. The bottom section has teeth or cogs capable of meshing with another gear or a rack on any of a variety of accessories to move the robot along a track or to animate the accessories. A lower weighted convex surface portion in the bottom biases the robot upright and facilitates spinning of the robot upright. The top and bottom sections are frictionally fit together to rotate or spin together and to spin separately with respect to each when either the top or bottom sections are not allowed to spin.

Abstract

In one embodiment there is a toy vehicle having a motor configured to cause a motion of an element of the toy. The motion of the element further accessible for manipulation by a human to in turn rotate the motor. The toy vehicle further having a processor configured to detect a back electromotive force ("EMF") voltage generated by the rotation of the motor due to the manipulation by a human, and the processor being further configured to include at least a sleep state and a wake state. The processor have a function configured to transition between the sleep state and the wake state when the detected back EMF voltage reaches a pre-determined value.

Abstract

In one embodiment there is a toy vehicle having a low inductance motor powered by a high frequency switched voltage at a frequency high enough to create continuous conduction. The vehicle further includes an H-bridge circuit configured to control a direction of the motor and an adjustable high frequency DC-DC switch configured to convert a supply voltage to an output voltage, lower than the supply voltage, for use by the H-bridge circuit to power the low inductance motor in a forward or reverse direction. In addition, a processor is included and has instructions configured to change the output voltage from the DC-DC switch from a first voltage to a second voltage.

Abstract

In one embodiment there is a toy skateboard having two configurations. In the first configuration, a pair of non-motorized truck assemblies are attached to the deck, and the upper surface of the deck has a finger engaging region for a user's fingers to engage and move the skateboard. In the second configuration, the rear non-motorized truck assembly is replaced with a motorized rear truck assembly, wherein the movement of the skateboard is controlled by the processor in response to remote signals. In addition, the processor may detect a back EMF voltage generated by the rotation of a motor caused by a manual manipulation of a wheel controlled by the motor. The processor would have sleep and wake states and would transition between the two when the detected back EMF voltage reaches a pre-determined value.

Abstract

In one embodiment there is provided an aquatic toy configured for movement under water. The aquatic toy employs sensors to automatically turn on when placed in water and further employs a timing circuit to automatically turn the toy off after a predetermined amount of time. The aquatic toy further includes a shock sensor to monitor movement of the toy when in water and after the timer expires. Movement such as tapping on the tank, splashing the water, or physical movement of the toy will turn on the toy and re-activate the timer. However, the sensors can further detect when the toy is dry to ensure the shock sensor is only active when the sensor is wet.

Abstract

This disclosure relates to enhanced control of user configurable devices, such as robots. One system may include a user-configurable device and an on-vehicle programmable controller coupled to the user-configurable device. This system may further include a wireless receiver coupled to the on-vehicle programmable controller via one signal wire, where a substantial portion of the receiver-controlled communications occur using the one signal wire. Another system may include (alternatively or in combination as appropriate) a user-configurable device including an on-vehicle programmable controller and a first tether port. The system may also include a remote control transmitter with at least one wireless output and a second tether port, where the transmitter is communicably coupled to the user-configurable remote control device.

Abstract

An apparatus includes a housing, a rotational motor situated within the housing, a vibrating mechanism, and a plurality of appendages each having an appendage base proximal to the housing and an appendage tip distal from the housing. One or more of the appendages are adapted to cause the apparatus to move across a surface in a forward direction generally defined by a longitudinal offset between the appendage base and the appendage tip, and the appendages include two or more appendages disposed such that the appendage tips of the two or more appendages are adapted to contact opposing surfaces to produce a net force in a direction generally defined by a longitudinal offset between the appendage base and the appendage tip of the two or more appendages as the vibrating mechanism causes the apparatus to vibrate. The net force can allow the apparatus to climb when the opposing surfaces are inclined.

Abstract

An apparatus includes an appendage rotatably coupled to a body of a device adapted to move based on internally induced vibration of the device. The appendage can be attached directly to the body of the device or to a frame that is adapted to releasably attach to the device. The appendage is adapted to rotate about an axis of rotation as vibration induces motion of the device. The device can include a body, an eccentric load, a rotational motor coupled to the body and adapted to rotate the eccentric load, and a plurality of legs each having a leg base and a leg tip at a distal end relative to the leg base. At least one driving leg configured to cause the apparatus to move in a direction generally defined by an offset between the leg base and the leg tip as the rotational motor rotates the eccentric load.

Abstract

The leverage device is intended to be installed on motorcycle stands that currently use a hex head machine screw for width adjustment. It consists of a) a female hex portion to mate with the hex head of the machine screw, b) a lever portion to be actuated by the user and c) a flat bottom to keep it captive to the machine screw. The device allows the user to loosen the screw slightly for width adjustment then re-tighten it without the use of tools. The low profile device is installed on the motorcycle stand to become a permanent part of the stand, unlike a wrench that is separate.
