Abstract

An overflow assembly including an overflow cap and a locking ring is described that allows liquid (e.g., water) being received or collected in a plumbing fixture (e.g., a bathtub) to flow into an overflow pipe in an effective, aesthetically pleasing manner using components that are easier to install than some conventional solutions. The locking ring has a threaded inner surface that is designed to be threaded onto an externally threaded end of the overflow pipe that is extended through a wall of the plumbing fixture to secure the overflow pipe with respect to the wall. The overflow cap may then be pressed onto the externally threaded end of the overflow pipe, such that it engages the externally threaded end via engagement tabs. The overflow cap can be removed from the end of the overflow pipe by rotating the cap to unthread it from the threaded end of the overflow pipe.

Abstract

An air admittance valve which when subjected to a negative pressure condition vents a pipe system to an ambient environment. Generally, the air admittance valve includes a housing, a cartridge, and a sealing member. The housing includes one or more vents disposed in its wall and may be engaged with the pipe system at one end. The cartridge may have one or more inlets defining one or more inlet openings, where the one or more inlets are connected to a central chamber that has an opening with a sealing structure. The sealing member interacts with the sealing structure of the cartridge to allow one-way airflow from the central chamber to the pipe system. The cartridge and sealing member may be inserted into the housing such that the one or more inlet openings substantially align with the one or more vents in the housing.

Abstract

An improved process of making a benefit agent delivery particle and an improved microcapsule made by such process are disclosed. The process comprises the steps of providing a first composition of water phase 1, water phase 2 and water phase 3. Water phase 1 comprises water and an initiator; water phase 2 comprises water, a water-soluble or dispersible amine(meth)acrylate or hydroxyl(meth)acrylate and a multifunctional (meth)acrylate. Water phase 3 comprises water, and carboxyalkyl(meth)acrylate and a base or quarternary ammonium acrylate. The first two water phases are combined to prereact the hydroxy- or amine(meth)acrylate and the multifunctional (meth)acrylate to form a multifunctional hydroxyl-amine(meth)acrylate pre-polymer. The pre-polymer is combined with water phase 3; then an emulsion is formed by emulsifying under high shear agitation a second composition into said first composition; said second composition comprising an oil phase comprising an isocyanate and a benefit agent core material thereby forming a wall surrounding the benefit agent core material.

Abstract

The invention teaches a method of efficiently dewatering a microcapsule slurry to form a water re-suspendable filter cake of microcapsules. The process comprises providing an aqueous slurry of microcapsules dispersed in an aqueous solution; adding an agglomeration agent and dispersing the agglomeration agent into the aqueous slurry; adjusting the pH to a pH level sufficient to agglomerate the dispersed microcapsules; and filtering the aqueous slurry of microcapsules by gravity, vacuum or pressure filtration to thereby form a filter cake of dewatered microcapsules. The agglomeration agent is sodium polyphosphate, sodium tetrapolyphosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, and/or sodium tripolyphosphate; or with anionic microcapsules or coatings even alkaline earth metal salts such as magnesium chloride, calcium chloride or barium chloride, or even aluminum salt such as aluminum chloride.

Abstract

Plumbing outlet boxes, such as for connecting washing machines, ice makers, and other plumbed appliances to plumbing systems, are provided that can be attached to each other without the use of separate connectors or mounting brackets. In particular, plumbing outlet boxes are described that include receiving features and mounting tabs extending outwardly from the side walls. The receiving features and mounting tabs are arranged such that the plumbing outlet box has rotational symmetry. In this way, receiving features may be engaged with mounting tabs of an adjacent plumbing outlet box regardless of the relative orientation of the mating plumbing outlet boxes.

Abstract

A coupler is described that precludes fluid communication between the first and second pipes attached on either side of the coupler. The coupler may be used in installations where a line branches off from a sewer main for future connection to a home or other building. The coupler includes a barrier wall located between first and second portions of the coupler, and the barrier wall precludes fluid communication between the first and second ends of the coupler. Moreover, the second portion defines an area of weakness that is designed to fail (e.g., flex or crack) when a failure force is applied near the second end, such as when an exposed (above-ground) portion of piping connected to the coupler is struck. In this way, the barrier wall and the first portion of the main wall can remain intact and continue to protect against entry of fluids into the sewer system.

Abstract

A process of forming microcapsules is described. The microcapsule population is formed by providing an anionic or cationic, solid hydrophilic core material; providing an oil continuous phase, the oil continuous phase comprising one or more esters with chain length up to about 18 carbons. Emulsification is achieved by subjecting the mixture to high shear agitation and heating the mixture for a time sufficient to enable acid or amine acrylate or methacrylate and multifunctional acrylate or methacrylate to form a prepolymer which migrates to the anionic or cationic solid hydrophilic material, thereby forming prepolymers adhered to the hydrophilic core materials. Temperature is held or heating continued for a time sufficient to enable the prepolymer to flow onto and coalesce into a continuous film surface coating on the hydrophilic core material. Heating is carried out or light exposure or both for a time and temperature sufficient to cross link the prepolymers.

Abstract

A plug having a pressure release valve for releasing excess pressure within a bladder of the plug. The release valve has a valve core with a pressure release passage therethrough with an inlet in fluid communication with an interior void of the bladder and an outlet in fluid communication with the external environment outside the bladder. An elastomeric seal under hoop stress about a portion of the valve core seals the outlet until overinflation of the bladder causes the seal to become elastically deflected and unseal the outlet, thereby allowing excess pressure to be released. When the overinflation no longer exists because of the pressure release, the hoop stress of the seal causes resealing of the outlet. An inflation valve may also be provided to inflate the bladder, and with the inlet opening into an inflation passageway into the bladder's interior.

Abstract

A process of forming a population of microcapsules is described comprising a liquid hydrophilic core material and a wall material at least partially surrounding the core material. The liquid hydrophilic core material can be anionic, cationic, or neutral but polar. The microcapsule population is formed by providing liquid hydrophilic core material; providing an oil continuous phase which is low boiling and preferably nonflammable, the oil continuous phase comprising preferably one or more organic oil materials such as esters with chain length up to about 42 carbons. A mixture is formed by dispersing the liquid hydrophilic material in the oil continuous phase. Either an oil soluble or dispersible monofunctional amine acrylate or monofunctional amine methacrylate, along with acid; or alternatively monofunctional acid acrylate or monofunctional acid methacrylate along with base; or alternatively, monofunctional amine acrylate or monofunctional amine methacrylate along with acid acrylate or methacrylate; is added. A multifunctional acrylate or methacrylate monomer or oligomer is provided along with an initiator. Optionally a surfactant is also added to form the mixture. Emulsification is achieved by subjecting the mixture to high shear agitation and heating the mixture for a time sufficient to enable forming a prepolymer which migrates to the liquid hydrophilic material, thereby forming prepolymers adhered to the hydrophilic core materials. Heating is carried out or light exposure or both for a time and temperature sufficient to crosslink the prepolymers.

Abstract

Disclosed are encapsulating methods and encapsulated products. A payload material may be encapsulated within a wall material. The carrier material and payload material form a combination that is at least substantially solid at room temperature but that is sufficiently fluid at milling temperature to permit milling and subsequent encapsulation. The payload material may be, for instance, a bitter tasting material. In some embodiments, the microcapsules will serve a taste masking function. In other embodiments, the microcapsules may be used where a slow release of the payload material is desired.

Abstract

A novel method of forming water in oil microcapsules is disclosed. According to the invention microcapsules are obtained by steps comprising dispersing an oil soluble amine modified polyfunctional polyvinyl monomer and an oil soluble bi- or polyfunctional vinyl monomer along with a thermal or UV free radical initiator (optionally included in one or both of the oil or water phases) and an organic acid into an internal phase oil; heating or UV exposing for a time (and temperature) sufficient to oligomerize the amine modified polyfunctional polyvinyl monomer and oil soluble bi- or polyfunctional vinyl monomer forming a pre-polymer. Thereafter the process involves adding to the oil phase oil a water phase comprising a dispersion in water of an anionic emulsifier (and optionally initiator), and adding an emulsifying agent. Emulsifying the water phase into the oil phase (W/O) is controlled through the quantity of water employed. The emulsion is then UV exposed or heated for a time (and temperature) sufficient to decompose the free radical initiators in the oil and/or water phases; thereby forming microcapsule wall material at the interface of the water and oil phases.

Abstract

A process of forming a population of microcapsules is described comprising a solid hydrophilic core material and a wall material at least partially surrounding the core material. The microcapsule population is formed by providing an anionic, or optionally a cationic, solid hydrophilic core material; providing an oil continuous phase which is low boiling and preferably nonflammable, the oil continuous phase comprising one or more esters with chain length up to about 18 carbons. A mixture is formed by dispersing the solid hydrophilic material in the oil continuous phase. A multifunctional acrylate or methacrylate monomer or oligomer is provided and an initiator. Optionally a surfactant is also added to form the mixture. Emulsification is achieved by subjecting the mixture to high shear agitation and heating the mixture for a time sufficient to enable the acid or amine acrylate or methacrylate and the multifunctional acrylate or methacrylate to form a prepolymer which migrates to the anionic or cationic solid hydrophilic material, thereby forming prepolymers adhered to the hydrophilic core materials. Temperature is held or heating continued for a time sufficient to enable the prepolymer to flow onto and coalesce into a continuous film surface coating on the hydrophilic core material.
