The present invention relates to an inerting method for extinguishing a fire in a closed room in which the oxygen content in the closed room is reduced to a specific inerting level within a given time (x), as well as a device for carrying out the method. In order to achieve the most exacting design possible to the inert gas fire-extinguishing system used during the inerting method, and in particular the most precise dimensioning possible to the inert gas to be provided, while simultaneously adhering to the required fire-fighting stage and re-ignition prevention stage necessary when extinguishing fires, the invention provides for the inerting level to be kept to the re-ignition prevention level within a given regulation range.
The invention relates to a method and a device for fire-prevention and for extinguishing a fire in an enclosed area (10), in particular a laboratory area, in which a permanent negative pressure has been established, wherein the atmosphere of said area is supplied with fresh air in a controlled manner as incoming air and waste air is evacuated from the atmosphere of said area in a controlled manner and wherein in the event of fire or to prevent a fire, an extinguishing agent, which is gaseous under normal conditions, is fed into the atmosphere of the area as incoming air. The aim of the invention is to ensure pressure relief even when the area (10) is rapidly flooded with the gaseous extinguishing agent, without altering the established negative pressure. To achieve this, the volumetric flow of the incoming air that is fed in total to the atmosphere of the area as fresh air and/or as extinguishing agent is less than or equal to the volumetric flow of the waste air evacuated from the atmosphere of the area.
The invention relates to an inertization method for reducing the risk of fire in an enclosed area (10) and to a device for carrying out said method. The aim of the invention is to provide an inertization system for an enclosed area (10), by means of which an effective reduction of the risk of fire can be obtained as a result of a permanent inertization of the protection area (10) and by means of which said preventive fire-protection achieved by the permanent inertization can be restricted, if necessary, to spatially separate zones of the enclosed area, without requiring structural partitions. To achieve this, at least one inert gas, the gas density (ρGas) of which differs from the mean gas density (ρGas) of the ambient air atmosphere of the area (10) is introduced into the enclosed area (10) in such a way that in said area (10) gas layering of the first gas layer (A) and a second gas layer (B) occurs, the oxygen content of the first gas layer (A) corresponding substantially to the oxygen content of the ambient air atmosphere and the oxygen content of the second gas layer (B) corresponding to a specific establishable oxygen content that is reduced in relation to the oxygen content of the ambient air atmosphere.
The invention relates to a method and device for fire prevention and/or fire extinguishing in enclosed spaces (10), the ambient atmosphere of which is not permitted to exceed a prescribed temperature value. In order to ensure that the cooling capacity provided by an air conditioning system does not need to be increased, even if inert gas is continuously or regularly added to the ambient atmosphere in order to adjust or maintain a certain inertization level, the invention proposes a system for the controlled introduction of inert gas into the ambient atmosphere of the enclosed space (10). The system comprises a tank (1) for providing and storing the inert gas in liquefied form and an evaporator (16) connected to the tank (1) for evaporating at least a part of the inert gas provided in the tank (1) and for introducing the vaporized inert gas into the ambient atmosphere of the enclosed space (10). The evaporator (16) is designed to take the heat energy required for evaporating the liquid inert gas directly or indirectly from the ambient atmosphere of the enclosed space (10).
The invention relates to a preventing and extinguishing fires in enclosed spaces in which the internal air atmosphere is not permitted to exceed a predefined temperature value. In order not to have to increase the cooling capacity of an air conditioning system when inert gas is added to the internal air atmosphere to set or maintain a specific inertization level within an enclosed space, a system for the regulated discharging of inert gas into same is provided. The system includes a container for the provision and storage of the inert gas in liquified form, and a vaporizer connected to the container for vaporizing at least a portion of the inert gas and discharging same into the internal air atmosphere of the enclosed space. The vaporizer thereby directly or indirectly extracts the heat energy needed to vaporize the liquid inert gas from the internal air atmosphere of the enclosed space.
The invention relates to an inertization device for establishing and maintaining a presettable inertization level in a protective room. The inertization device has an inert gas system for providing inert gas, a supply pipe system connected to the inert gas system for supplying the inert gas to the protective room, and an inert gas system control unit for controlling the inert gas system. The rate the inert gas rate is provided determines a level of inertization inside the protective room. In order for the inert gas rate supplied to the protective room to be appropriately controlled, even in the event of a disruption in the control of the inert gas system or in the event of a failure of the inert gas system control unit, a safety device is provided.
The invention relates to an inertization device for establishing and maintaining an inertization level in a protective room. The inertization device has a controllable inert gas system for providing inert gas, a first supply pipe system connected to the inert gas system and the protective room to supply the inert gas to the protective room, and a control unit to control the inert gas system such that a presettable inertization level is established and maintained inside the protective room. In order to raise the inertization level inside the protective room rapidly to an accessibility level without requiring major structural measures, a valve controlled by the control unit is connected to the inert gas system and the first supply pipe system to supply the exhaust air prepared by the inert gas system as fresh air to the protective room.
A method and apparatus for the controlled feeding of added air into a permanently inertized room in which a predefined inertization level is or must be set and maintained within a certain control range provide for the volume flow rate at which an inert gas is fed into the room atmosphere to attain a value that is adequate for maintaining the predefined inertization level in the room atmosphere that will minimize fire risk. In addition, provisions are made whereby at all times just enough fresh air is injected into the room atmosphere as is necessary to remove from the room atmosphere that proportional concentration of hazardous substances that has not already been removed, via a corresponding return-air exhaust system as a result of the injection of inert gas.
The invention relates to a device and a method for the regulated supply of incoming air into a permanently inert area (10) in which a pre-defined inerting level is adjusted or to be adjusted and maintained in a certain regulating range. The aim of the invention is to be able to maintain the prescribed air regeneration rate for the permanently inert area (10), and to permanently effectively eliminate the risk of fire in the area (10), in the most effective and economical way possible. To this end, a value is associated with the volume flow rate (VN2) at which an inert gas is supplied to the air atmosphere in the area, which is sufficient to maintain the prescribed inerting level in the air atmosphere of the space. Furthermore, only as much fresh air is supplied to the air atmosphere of the area as is directly required to remove the pollutant part from said air atmosphere, which has not already been eliminated by the supply of the inert gas via a corresponding outgoing air discharge system (4).
The invention relates to an inerting arrangement (1) for setting and maintaining predeterminable inerting levels in a protective space (2) to be monitored. The inerting arrangement (1) comprises for this purpose a controllable inert gas system (10, 11, 12) for supplying inert gas, a feed pipe system (20), which is connected to the inert gas system (10, 11, 12) and can be connected to the protective space (2), in order to feed the inert gas supplied by the inert gas system (10, 11, 12) to the protective space (2), and an inert gas system control unit (30) which is designed to control the inert gas system (10, 11, 12) in such a way that an inert gas rate supplied by the inert gas system (10, 11, 12) assumes a value which is suitable for setting and/or maintaining a first predeterminable inerting level in the protective space (2). In order to ensure, even when there is a disruption in the control of the inert gas system (10, 11, 12) or when there is a failure of the inert gas system control unit (30), that the inert gas rate fed to the protective space (2) can in principle be regulated correspondingly such that a second predeterminable inerting level is set and/or maintained in the protective space (2), a correspondingly designed safety device (40, 41, 42, 43) is provided according to the invention.
The invention relates to an inertisation device (1) for adjusting and maintaining predefinable inertisation levels in a protected area (2) that is to be monitored. Said inertisation device (1) comprises a controllable inert gas arrangement (10, 11) for providing inert gas, a first supply pipe system (20) which is connected to the inert gas arrangement (10, 11) and which can be connected to the protected area (2) in order to guide the inert gas provided by the inert gas arrangement (10, 11), and a control unit (12) which is used to control the inert gas arrangement (10, 11) in such a manner that a predefinable inertisation level is controlled and maintained in the protected area (2). The aim of the invention is to rapidly increase the inertisation level in the protected area (2) to an accessibility level without large structural modifications, for example, installing ventilation flaps in the protected area (2). According to the invention, a valve (31) that can be switched by the control unit (12) is connected to the inert gas arrangement (10, 11) and to the first supply pipe system (20), in order to, according to requirements, guide the exit air to the protected area (2), said exit air provided by the inert gas arrangement (10, 11) by the outlet (Hb) as fresh air.
The invention relates to a method that enables the air tightness of an enclosed space to be determined in the most precise manner and without increasing expenditure. Said space is particularly suitable for use in the above mentioned inert gas fire extinction system. The invention relates to, in particular, a method in which the actual air tightness of the enclosed space can be determined, if required, at any particular time in an effective but simple manner without having to acquire a series of expensive measurements. According to the invention, a concentration gradient between the room air atmosphere of an enclosed space and the ambient air atmosphere is initially controlled, and in which the concentration of at least one component of the room air atmosphere, in particular oxygen, is adjusted to a value that is different from the corresponding value of the concentration of at least one component in the ambient air atmosphere. Subsequently, a concentration variation rate is determined in which the temporal modification of the concentration of at least one component is detected in the room-air atmosphere. Subsequently, an airtightness value of the enclosed space is calculated by taking into account the determined concentration modification rate.

MULTISTAGE INERTING METHOD FOR PREVENTING AND EXTINGUISHING FIRES IN ENCLOSED SPACES
The invention relates to an inerting method for reducing the risk of fires and for extinguishing fires in a protective space, wherein the oxygen content in the protective space is first reduced to a set base inerting level and then continuously maintained on said set base inerting level. The aim of the invention is to be able to eliminate or at least lessen the need of a pressure relief in the protective space for using the inerting method and simultaneously to achieve that, in the event of fire, fire fighting can be carried out by introducing additional inert gas into the protective chamber depending on the extent of the fire. To this end, it is proposed that, in the event of fire in the protective space, the oxygen content is further reduced from the base inerting level to a first reduced level, that the oxygen content is then continuously maintained at a first reduced level for a first predetermined period of time and that the oxygen content is subsequently further reduced from a first reduced level to a complete inerting level if the fire has not yet been extinguished after the first predetermined period of time.
