Abstract

This version will replace all prior versions in the application: A chromatography method in which a starting material is separated into fractions and at least one of the fractions which have at least a predetermined target content of at least one target component of the starting material is derived as a target product fraction. The fractions which do not have the predetermined target content form residual fractions and at least part of at least one of the residual fractions is added to the starting material still to be separated. At least part of at least one of the residual fractions of which the content of the target component differs less from the predetermined target content than the target component content of the starting material is added to the starting material still to be separated. The residual fractions of which the target component content differs more from the predetermined target content than that of the starting material are diverted for further handling.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for processing a separation product, containing carboxylic acids, of a separation process, in particular a process for separating fish oil and/or algae oil, in which method polyunsaturated hydrocarbons are produced at least from some of the carboxylic acids by means of microbes. Advantageously, the polyunsaturated hydrocarbons are or comprise omega-3 fatty acids and/or omega-6 fatty acids, preferably EPA, DHA and/or DPA. In an embodiment of the invention, the microbes are or comprise yeast, fungus, bacteria and/or in particular marine protists, preferably microalgae. The yeast is preferably a yeast of the Yarrowia lipolytica species and the marine protist is preferably a microalga of the Schizochytrium genus, preferably Schizochytrium limacinum SR21. The invention further relates to biomass which is produced from microbes and comprises polyunsaturated hydrocarbons.

Abstract

A method for producing edible oil, having a high content of unsaturated fatty acids, from a product of microalgae. The microalgae product is treated to form an intermediate product that is subjected to a material separation process for removing impurities, in which material separation process the triglyceride is used as a carrier for the impurities. A microalgae oil and/or a lipid extract is advantageously used as the microalgae product. The microalgae product is preferably obtained from microalgae, more particularly photoautotrophic and/or mixotrophic microalgae. The microalgae product is treated by transesterification in order to form the intermediate product, wherein the microalgae product is preferably transformed into an ethyl ester. An organic phase is separated from an inorganic phase of the intermediate product and the organic phase of the intermediate product is subjected to a material separation process for removing impurities, in which material separation process the triglyceride is used.

Abstract

An application of omega-3 and/or omega-6 fatty acid(s) for the therapeutic treatment of the human or animal body in the case of an impaired sphingolipid metabolism, in particular in the case of impaired sphingolipid synthesis and/or excessive sphingolipid degradation. The agent is applied in the case of missing, reduced and/or defective formation of a sphingomyelin synthase enzyme in the body, in particular the enzyme sphingomyelin synthase 1 or the enzyme sphingomyelin synthase 2. The application has proved to be useful in the case of a defect of the sphingomyelin synthase 1 gene or of the sphingomyelin synthase 2 gene. The omega-3 and/or omega-6 fatty acid(s) preferably comprise(s) polyunsaturated omega-3 and/or omega-6 fatty acid(s), preferably EPA, DHA, DPA, ETA, 21:5n3 and/or SDA. A method for determining a cause of a disease in an animal or a human being and a device for carrying out the method are also provided.

Abstract

A process for obtaining free fatty acid and/or free fatty acid ester, including separating a liquid mixture containing the free fatty acid and/or the fatty acid ester by contacting a vapor of the liquid mixture in a column of a distillation apparatus with condensate formed from the vapor running downward. Heat and mass transfer takes place between the vapor and the condensate on column internals. The column has at least 10 theoretical plates and the separation is conducted with a pressure drop between the top and bottom of the column of Δp of ≥3.3 mbars. Appropriately, the liquid mixture, contains polyunsaturated fatty acid, preferably omega-6 or omega-3 fatty acid and/or alkyl monoesters and/or glycerol monoesters. In one embodiment the column has at least 30 theoretical plates and the separation is conducted with a pressure drop Δp between 3.5 mbar and 6 mbar.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a concentration- and purification method for compositions containing phytanic acid and/or derivatives thereof besides other fatty acids and/or their derivatives, preferably besides polyunsaturated fatty acids and/or their derivatives, such as esters or salts. With the fractionation process the phytanic acid (derivative) can become concentrated and the fatty acid mixture, preferably PUFA-mixture, can be purified from this particular component.
