Abstract
Guiding and cutting apparatus (30) for use in a paper converting and sheet inserting apparatus (10). Guiding apparatus (30) includes first and second rollers (108b, 108b') for engaging lateral edges (12c) of a web (12) and a driving apparatus (106) configured to permit the rollers (108b, 108b') to rotate at different surface speeds relative to one another. Cutting apparatus (30) includes an angled blade (232) for transversely cutting each side-by-side portion (12X, 12Y) of a slit web (12) into discrete sheets. Two side-by-side sheets are cut from respective web portions (12X, 12Y) separately in time. Method, blade apparatus (220), web brake (150) and slitter apparatus (200) are disclosed.

Abstract
An apparatus (80) for conveying envelopes (120) traveling in a travel direction (130) in a generally upright orientation. The apparatus (80) includes a first pair of conveyor assemblies (112) disposed opposite one another and configured to engage lateral edges (120a) of the envelopes (120), and configured to move the envelopes (120) in the travel direction (130). The apparatus (80) includes a second pair of conveyor assemblies (114) disposed opposite one another and positioned downstream of the first pair of conveyor assemblies (112) in the travel direction (130), with the second pair of conveyor assemblies (114) being configured to move the envelopes (120) in the travel direction (130) independently of the first pair of conveyor assemblies (112).

Abstract
Apparatus (40) is provided for transporting a paper or film discrete object (12, 12') in a machine direction (15). A top engaging portion (120) contacts a first side (12a) of the object (12, 12') and a bottom engaging portion (130) contacts a second side (12b) of the object (12, 12') opposite the first side (12a) and respectively cooperates with the top engaging portion (120) to grip and move the object (12, 12') in the machine direction (15). At least one of the top engaging portion (120) or the bottom engaging portion (130) includes a plurality of deflectable elements (170) for engaging the object (12, 12').

Abstract
An apparatus (420) for processing envelopes (130). A support plate (422) and a pressure sensing lever (434) support a stack of envelopes (130) in a generally upright orientation. The pressure sensing lever (434) pivots in accordance with pressure exerted by the stack of envelopes (130). A feeding apparatus (460) is operatively coupled to a sensor (450) such that pivotal movement of the pressure sensing lever (434) is detected by the sensor (450) and the feeding apparatus (460) changes the pressure exerted against the stack of envelopes (130).

Abstract
An apparatus (100) for inserting a paper or film object (120) or a stack of such objects (120) into an envelope (130). A feeding apparatus (1 10) moves the object (120) toward an insertion station and a vacuum drum (150) has a surface (170) adapted to engage and move the envelope (130) toward the insertion station. A ramp element (210) is coupled to the vacuum drum (150) and is adapted to support a leading portion (13Of) of the envelope (130) as the envelope (130) moves with the vacuum drum (150).

Abstract
An apparatus (110) transports a discrete paper or film object (131 ) in a machine direction (15) for insertion into an envelope (132). A guide assembly (120) of the apparatus (110) includes opposed first and second channels (125, 129) facing one another for guiding the object (131 ) in the machine direction (15), with the channels (125, 129) extending upwardly to thereby define an uphill path of travel (130) for the object (131). A drive apparatus (300) includes engaging elements (310) for moving the object (131) along the first and second channels (125, 129). At least one support element (144, 148) holds the object (131) against the guide assembly (120).
