Abstract

A cabinet irradiator incorporates an x-ray tube, a moveable sample stage, dosimeter, and a real-time camera. A computing device receives video data from the real-time camera and based on the video data the computing device manipulates the sample stage height vertically in relationship to the sample chamber floor and the output window of the x-ray tube to be able to deliver the maximum dose rate to the entire sample as quickly as possible. A real-time image is captured and the image is correlated to move the sample stage vertically attaining a closer proximity to the exit window of the x-ray tube to attain and maximize dosage received by the sample in the shortest duration of time and operating the system to attain the desired prescribed dose.

Abstract

It would be advantageous with the close quarters in breast procedure rooms to create a system and method incorporating 2 modalities utilized in breast intervention procedures for the diagnosis and verification for breast cancer. Systems for specimen radiography assist radiologists and surgeons in the detection and classification of abnormal lesions in medical images gleaned from breast biopsies/lumpectomies and a Gamma or other probe system with a sensor to detect radioactive, metallic/magnet, or RFID waves to help locate a lump or abnormality which were placed by an Interventional Radiologist. With the utilization of a dual modality machine, the physician can detect the abnormalities, remove the abnormalities, and verify that they have achieved a clean margin, currently 1 mm, from the cancerous or abnormal tissues. Currently it is believed that there is not a system or method utilizing both a Gamma or other probe and Radiography in a cabinet system.

Abstract

The aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a method and system for producing tomosynthesis images of a breast specimen with the capability of attaining images with geometric magnification. In one embodiment, an x-ray source delivers x-rays through a specimen of excised tissue and forms an image at a digital x-ray detector with the resultant image enlarging as the specimen is moved closer to the x-ray source. Multiple x-ray images are taken as the x-ray source moves relative to the stationary breast specimen. The source may travel substantially along a path while the detector remains stationary throughout and the source remains substantially equidistant from the specimen platform. The set of x-ray image data taken at the different points are combined to form a tomosynthesis image that can be viewed in different formats, alone or as an adjunct to conventional specimen radiography.

The present disclosure relates to the field of a cabinet x-ray incorporating an x-ray tube, an x-ray detector, and a real-time camera, either high definition or standard resolution, for the production of organic and non-organic images. The computing device can receive video data from the camera and the x-ray detector and determines, based on the video data, an overlay of the captured x-ray image with the captured real-time image or display images adjacently i.e. Picture-In-Picture (PIP). In particular, the disclosure relates to a system and method with corresponding apparatus for capturing a real-time image simultaneously with the x-ray image allowing a cabinet x-ray unit to attain and optimize images with exact orientation of the 2 images.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to the field of a cabinet x-ray incorporating an x-ray tube, an x-ray detector, and an optical camera for the production of organic and non-organic images. The computing device receives data including video data from an optical camera, a laser detector, an infrared detector, an ultrasonic detector, or a weight scale or pressure sensor, and determines automatically, based on the resultant data, if a sample/specimen has been left in the sample chamber. In particular, the disclosure relates to a system and method with corresponding apparatus for automatic detection if a sample/specimen has been left in the sample chamber without having to open the chamber door.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a system, method, and computer program product for computer-aided detection (CAD) of suspicious lesions in digital breast specimen radiographs, wherein single-view feature vectors from a first digital radiograph of the breast specimen are processed in a classification algorithm along with information computed from a plurality of related digital specimen radiographs to assign an overall probability of suspiciousness to potentially suspicious lesions in the first digital breast specimen radiography. In one embodiment, a greater probability of suspiciousness is determined where there are similar corresponding lesions in the first digital breast specimen radiography and in an alternate digital breast specimen radiography view of the same breast specimen. In another preferred embodiment, a lesser probability of suspiciousness is found where there are symmetric lesions or structures located in the first digital breast specimen radiography and a digital breast specimen radiography of another view.
