A paint brush (201) is provided. The brush comprises a bristle cluster (207) and a handle (202) for holding the cluster. The root end of the cluster is set into adhesive composition by a set depth X. The cluster comprises bristles of two or more different lengths. For a majority of the bristles the difference in length between a longest bristle and a shortest bristle is a range value Y. Y is less than X which means that one end of all bristles conforming to this rule must be embedded in adhesive composition but not all bristles will extend all the way to the tip end of the cluster. This ensures that bristles do not fall out of the handle while providing a tip end with reduced weight.

The present invention concerns a paint roller comprising a frame (15) having a handle portion (26) and a shaft (29), a sleeve support rotatably mounted on the shaft for receiving a roller sleeve, and a locking mechanism (30) moveable between a first position in which a paint roller sleeve (20) can be slid over the said support and a second position in which a part (34) of the mechanism is urged against the inside wall of a roller sleeve mounted on the said support in use, whereby to lock the roller sleeve to the frame. The locking mechanism (30) preferably comprises at least one locking element (34), preferably a resilient element, and first and second axially movable parts (35, 36) which are movable relative to each other to cause the locking element (34) to be urged outwards against the inside wall of a roller sleeve mounted on the support.

An ergonomic paint brush handle (10) is provided. The handle (10) has an elongate body for receiving a brush bristle cluster (15) at one end so that the cluster lies in a notional brush plane (85). The elongate body lies a median plane (80) running along the length thereof and transverse the brush plane. The body is curved at least in the median plane along at least part of its length to provide a comfortable grip.
