Abstract

The application relates to a method and an apparatus for producing at least carbon by a chemical reaction with a catalyst in a reactor. A reactant is supplied to the reactor comprising at least one catalyst surface for the chemical reaction and at least one space in the reactor, and the catalyst surface contains a metal catalyst. The chemical reaction is performed in the reactor in which the reactant is arranged into contact with the catalyst surface to form the carbon comprising an allotrope of carbon, and nano-scale metal particles are detached from the catalyst surface by the formed carbon. The chemical reaction is continued in the space of the reactor and an amount of the carbon is grown by the formed carbon which comprises the detached nano-scale metal particles. Further, the application relates to a catalyst for the chemical reaction.
