Abstract

The invention relates to a pyrotechnic current breaker (1) for severing a conductor (9), having a housing (2) which is equipped with a cutting piston (8) and an ignition unit (16) for driving the cutting piston (8). The conductor (9) passes through the housing (2), and when the igniter (18) is triggered, the cutting piston (8) severs a printed circuit board (12) from the conductor (9). According to the invention, at least one spacer (20), preferably three spacers (20), are provided between the cutting piston (8) and the conductor (9), said spacers having the shape of pins and lying on a circle (19), the center of which lies on the central axis (24) of the cutting piston (8). If the side of the spacers facing the printed circuit board (12) is angled such that the region (21) of each spacer (20) adjoining the central axis (24) has a shorter distance to the printed circuit board (12) than the region (23) facing away from the central axis (24), the spacers (20) are pushed towards the central axis (24) when the igniter is triggered such that the spacers can be received in a recess (22). Furthermore, the region (21) adjoining the central axis (24) is easily deformable such that changes in the distance between the cutting piston (8) and the conductor (9) due to temperature fluctuations are compensated for.

Abstract

The aim of the invention is to produce a conductor (14) for a circuit breaker (11), said conductor having a printed circuit board (14c) to be separated between two conductor ends and additionally having a conductor encapsulation (15) that has a cavity (20) in which the printed circuit board (14c) is located. This is achieved in that a plastic melt is injected, via at least one gate (21), into an injection mold, in which the conductor (14) is located. According to the invention, the gating process (21) is carried out from out of the cavity (20), through which the conductor passes, wherein the plastic melt flows from the gate (21) to the actual conductor encapsulation (15) through a runner (22; 24a-24d; 26a, 26b). In the process, the gate (21) can remain in the completed circuit breaker (11).

Abstract

The pyrotechnic actuator (1) comprises a tubular housing (2), which has a pyrotechnic igniter (21) at one end, and also comprises a piston with a flared end (4a) and a piston rod (4). The flared end (4a) of the piston can be displaced in the housing (2), by the igniter (21), from a starting position, adjacent to the igniter (21), into an end position, remote from the igniter (21). At that end of the housing (2) which is directed away from the igniter (21), a single-piece sealing element (5) is provided between the piston rod (4) and the housing (2). The piston rod (4) passes through the sealing element (5). The piston rod has a step (14) in the region of the sealing element (5), wherein the external diameter (13) of the piston rod (4) is smaller on that side of the step (14) which is directed away from the igniter (21) than the external diameter (12) on that side of the step (14) which is directed towards the igniter (21). According to the invention, the sealing element (5) has a corresponding mating step (27), and so the sealing element (5) is seated on the step (14) of the piston rod (4). Axial prestressing thus makes it possible to achieve sealing between the housing (2) and the piston rod (4). The sealing element (5) is preferably ruptured when the actuator is triggered.

Abstract

To produce a current disconnector for automotive safety systems having a conductor (1) which has at least one weakened disconnection point (7a, 7b), the conductor (1) is overmoulded in a plastic injection-moulding tool (2, 3). According to the invention, the disconnection point or disconnection points (7a, 7b) of the conductor (1) is/are produced in the plastic injection-moulding tool (2, 3). This not only simplifies production, it also prevents damage to the conductor, which is fragile owing to the weakened disconnection point, before it is stabilised by the overmoulding. Preferably, the disconnection point or disconnection points (7a, 7b) is/are produced by the closing movement of the plastic injection-moulding tool (2, 3). The disconnection point or disconnection points (7a. 7b) can also be produced in the preheating region of the plastic injection-moulding tool.

Abstract

In a pyrotechnic current breaker having a conductor (18), which passes through a cavity (20) in a housing (11), this conductor (18) is severed by a separating punch (24) that is driven in this cavity by an igniter (17). In order to prevent an escape of unfiltered gases along the conductor (18), an outer housing (33) is provided, such that there is an additional expansion space (47) between the housing (11) and the outer housing (33), wherein, in the intermediate space between the housing (11) and outer housing (33), a cooling element (45, 46) is attached around each of the two conductor ends (18a, 18b) in a clamped manner between the outer housing (33) and the housing (11), such that the gases emerging along the conductor (18) pass into the expansion space (47) only through these cooling elements (45, 46). The cavity (20) can be connected to the expansion space (47) by two vent ducts (41, 42), which are filled with a filter (43, 44), with the result that the internal pressure is reduced. It is beneficial here when the cooling elements (45, 46) cover the mouth of the vent ducts (41, 42) such that the gases that flow through the vent ducts (41, 42) also additionally flow through the cooling elements (45, 46).

Abstract

The invention relates to a pyrotechnic current breaker that has a housing (11) with a recess (21), in which a separating piston (22) is arranged. The separating piston (22) can be accelerated against a conductor (17), which passes through the recess (21), by an igniter (16) so that the separating piston severs the conductor (17). The housing (11) is preferably composed of three parts (12, 13, 14) which are connected together by means of connection elements (26a-26c), preferably screws. The recess (21) is connected to the outer face of the housing (11) via flow channels (31, 32, 33), wherein according to the invention the flow channels (31, 32, 33) have a first section (31), which runs from the recess (21) to a connection element (26a-26c), a second section (32), which runs along the connection element (26a-26c), and a third section (33) which runs from the connection element (26a-26c) to the outer face of the housing (11). The first section (31) and the third section (33) can be formed by the joint between the parts (12, 13, 14) of the housing (11). If the screw(s) in the region of the flow channel (31, 32, 33) have a thread, the gases must flow along the thread such that the gases must traverse a long distance and are cooled to a great extent.

Abstract

A disconnect has a housing defining a cavity, a busbar fixed in the housing and extending through the cavity, a piston movable in the cavity past the piston for breaking a piece out of the busbar, and a plurality of metallic filter elements exposed in the cavity below the busbar and electrically connecting with the piece on activation of the disconnect. An igniter displaces the piston in the cavity into engagement with and past the busbar so as to break the piece out of busbar and displace it past the filter elements such that an arc created by breaking out the piece is drawn by the piece away from the busbar and energy of the arc heats and is dissipated in the filter elements.

Abstract

The invention relates to a pyrotechnic current breaker (1) for severing a bus bar (2), comprising a first detonator (7) for passive tripping and a second detonator (14) for active tripping. Both act on a severing piston (9), which severs the bus bar (2) at at least one severing point (5a, 5b) in the event of tripping. The first detonator (7) is connected, by means of two conductors (8a, 8b), to the two sides of a fuse, through which the current through the bus bar (2) flows, while the second detonator (14) has contacts (15a, 15b) for the connecting of an external tripping device. According to the invention, one of the two detonators, preferably the first detonator (7), is disposed in the severing piston (9). The fuse is preferably formed integrally with the bus bar (2), the fuse being formed either by the severing point(s) (5a, 5b) or by a weakened region between two severing points (5a, 5b). It can easily be provided that, in the event of tripping, at least one conductor (8a, 8b) is interrupted in order to prevent an arc in the first detonator (7), e.g. by virtue of the fact that at least one conductor (8a, 8b) is disposed in the path of motion of the severing piston (9).
