The merchandiser includes a housing defining a cavity for storing the product and an access control system communicatively coupled with a controller. The controller includes one or more processors coupled to one or more memory devices. The one or more memory devices have instructions stored therein that are executable by the one or more processors to cause the controller to: receive an input to initiate a transaction for the product; operate the access control system to unlock a door of the merchandiser to enable a removal of the product based on receiving the input; detect the removal of the product; operate the access control system to lock the door of the merchandiser upon receiving an indication that the transaction for the product is complete; and charge or facilitate charging the customer for the product of the transaction.
