Abstract

A surface compactor machine includes an unsprung mass including a cylindrical drum and a cylindrical spool disposed within the cylindrical drum, and a sprung mass rotationally coupled to the cylindrical spool. The sprung mass has a center of gravity that is lower than the center of gravity of the unsprung mass when the surface compactor machine is in a stationary position. The sprung mass includes a traction system that rotates the sprung mass relative to the cylindrical spool. When the traction system rotates the sprung mass relative to the cylindrical spool, the second center of gravity of the sprung mass is rotated out of vertical alignment with the first center of gravity of the unsprung mass, thereby imparting torque to the cylindrical spool that causes rotation of the cylindrical drum.

Abstract

A method for controlling infections in a facility such as a hospital or foodservice establishment is provided. The method comprises tagging assets, monitoring asset location and pathogen contamination for each asset over time, analyzing data sets to identify which assets are the critical control points for pathogen transfer, and coating a residual self-sanitizing coating composition on each asset identified as a critical control point. The infection control method shuts down pathogen transfer routes by mitigating or eliminating pathogen growth on the critical control points.

Abstract

A wet wipe is disclosed that provides both contact sanitization of a surface and application of a residual antimicrobial coating on the surface through the same wiping. The wet wipe comprises a substrate such as an absorbent nonwoven fabric and a liquid composition impregnated therein, the liquid composition comprising an organosilane such as the antimicrobial dimethyloctadecyl[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl] ammonium chloride, a non-silane quaternary disinfectant, an organic amine, and a solvent. The non-silane quaternary actives comprise a mixture of actives, and the solvent comprises 60 wt. % isopropanol or more.

Abstract

E. coli inoculated on the dried coating. In various examples, the method further comprises the step of spray-coating a mixture of peroxotitanium acid and peroxo-modified anatase sol on the surface. The compositions may be electrostatically sprayed on the surface, and in certain examples, a mixture of silanol and triethanolamine is spray-coated on the surface followed by an aqueous mixture of peroxotitanium acid and peroxo-modified anatase sol.

A fluid filtration apparatus, which includes a plurality of optical fibers each having a length, wherein one or more of the plurality of optical fibers exhibits frustrated total internal reflection, thereby emitting light along the length of one or more of the optical fibers, in combination with a photocatalyst disposed on the plurality of optical fibers and a light source interconnected to the plurality of optical fibers.

Abstract

A method to prepare a self-decontaminating surface, where that method includes dissolving tartaric acid in water, adding titanium (IV) isopropoxide to the tartaric acid solution to form a coating composition in water, and casting that coating composition onto a surface to form a coating having anti-microbial function.
