Abstract

The invention relates to a method for melting non-ferrous metal by means of at least one electric immersion heater, wherein: - at least one electric immersion heater is brought into contact or into close proximity with non-ferrous metal in the solid state placed inside a vessel, - during a so-called priming step, a so-called initial electrical power corresponding to a fraction of the nominal power of the electric immersion heater is supplied to the electric immersion heater and - during a so-called melting step, the electrical power supplied to the electric immersion heater is increased progressively or in steps so that the non-ferrous metal present in the vessel changes from a solid state to a liquid state without significant input from heat sources other than the at least one electric immersion heater. The invention also relates to a melting device for implementing the method and to a production unit comprising such a device.
