Abstract

A vented eyeglass frame is provided having a front frame extending laterally from a first end to a second end and for connecting to a temple at each of the first end and the second end. The front frame has first and second lens openings, with each lens opening being defined by a respective opening boundary at least partially circumscribing the corresponding lens opening. A bridge is defined between the first and second lens openings, and outer vents are provided at each end adjacent the corresponding lens openings. Inner vents are then provided at the bridge adjacent the lens openings. The lens opening boundaries each have a lens channel for at least partially enveloping a lens located at the respective lens opening, and each vent is defined by a gap in the corresponding lens opening.

Abstract

The present invention relates to partial rim eyewear or eyeglasses having impact resistant prescription lenses and mechanically secured to the frame. The eyeglasses are particularly useful for athletic activity because they are lightweight and offer a wide field of vision because they do not comprise of a full rim. The lenses are to be prescription either tinted, or clear, with or without coatings that may be preferred for use with athletic activities. The mechanical lock attachment to secure each lens in place can include adhesives or double sided adhesive tape, notches in the partial rim frame with corresponding protrusions in the lens, with or without a lock clip engaging the lens and a locking pin engaging the lock clip, and/or a screw, adhesive or double-sided tape Advantageously, the lenses are impact resistant and are securely attached to the frame via these different mechanical attachments.

The lenses may be tinted, prescription, protective eyewear, or piano. The magnetic lenses are convenient and user friendly, allowing intuitive, tool-less interchangeability with no need to twist or stress the frame. These methods of attachment require no specific instructions or tools when the user replaces lenses.
