Abstract

The invention consists of a self-contained heating system (or unit) equipped with indirect tracer sensors that can be used in the field of soil remediation by thermal desorption using several heating systems. The sensors, coupled with system modelling to anticipate remediation needs, allow for better monitoring of the treatment compared to current systems and thus reduce treatment times and costs. The remote control of the heating system takes into account this additional information and each heating unit is controlled according to the measurements of its direct environment, making it possible to carry out an effective treatment notwithstanding the heterogeneity of the medium to be treated.

Abstract

Generally described, a heating device, or heating tube, includes a combustive fluid inlet, respectively a combustible fluid inlet, is connected to a combustion head via a first pipe, respectively a second pipe, the second pipe being housed at least partially in the first pipe. In this heating device, the combustion head is distant of at least 50 cm from the combustible fluid inlet, which enables to create a “cold zone” between the two. The first and the second pipes enable to bring the combustible fluid and the combustive fluid separately to the combustion head, even if the latter is remote by at least 50 cm from the combustible fluid and combustive fluid inlets.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a soil sampling system for extracting a hot soil sample up to 600°C, comprising (a) at least one inner cylinder comprising a sampler and (b) an outer cylinder of larger diameter allowing rotation of the inner cylinder in the outer cylinder, and wherein the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder comprise at least one opening suitable for entry of the hot soil sample when positioned such that the openings in the inner and outer cylinder are aligned and allow the sample to flow into the inner cylinder and such that the outer cylinder can rotate to seal the inner cylinder containing the sample airtight from the outside, and where the outer cylinder is provided with a scraper to force the entry of soil into the sampler upon rotation thereof and where the outer cylinder is provided with spiral or fractional spiral shaped fins to improve the introduction of the soil sampling system into the soil.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for decontaminating soils by thermal desorption and for generating and storing power, the method comprising: - a solar concentration unit consisting of multiple concentrators connected to one another by a heat-transfer fluid network generating a heating fluid at a temperature above 100°C; - a set of metal tubes inserted into the contaminated soil, physically connected to the network and placed alternately with the solar concentrators; - a set of valves installed on the network making it possible to guide the fluid to a reduced number of metal tubes and then to direct this same fluid to other metal tubes as needed; a set of perforated tubes inserted into the soil, connected to catalytic oxidation units located below ground level and in direct contact with the metal tubes. The invention also describes an on-site thermal desorption system.

Abstract

A method for treating soils and groundwaters comprising an alternation of heating the soil and injecting nanoparticles comprising: an assembly of at least one tube for heating the soil combined with at least one perforated tube in order to extract the volatile and semi-volatile vapours and to inject nanoparticles; a heating system connected at the surface so as to increase the temperature of the heating elements; the injection, at moments chosen as a function of the temperature, of nanoparticles in colloidal form into the soil matrix; the injection, at different depths, of nanoparticles as a function of the heating phase; the recovery of vapours at specific depths as a function of the injections of nanoparticles in order to promote the stabilization of the heavy metals.
