Abstract

An air shutoff valve includes a valve body having a portway configured to connect to an air intake of an engine, and a linear guide system disposed within the valve body. Abstract

A device configured to act as a valve for a system including cooling fluid may include a nut assembly and a valve body. The nut assembly is configured to be coupled to the system and the valve body is configured to be coupled to the nut assembly. The valve body includes a thermal actuator element and a first component configured to contact the nut assembly when the temperature of the thermal actuator element is greater than a threshold, and to allow the valve body to de-couple from the nut assembly when the temperature of the thermal actuator element is less than the threshold. The device also includes a reset mechanism configured to reset the device after the valve body has de-coupled from the nut assembly. The reset mechanism may include a handle.

Abstract

An air shutoff valve includes a passage for supplying air, a swing gate, a shaft attached to a reset handle, and a spring to urge the gate toward its closed position. A trigger assembly secures the shaft and gate in the open position and includes an actuator, a cam, and a rocker arm. A cam surface of the arm has a notch to receive a sear point of the cam. Movement of the handle against the spring causes the cam contact surface of the cam to follow the cam surface to cause the arm to rotate such that the sear point is received in the notch. Actuating the actuator causes the arm to pivot away from the cam such that the sear point is released from the notch, wherein the spring causes the shaft to move the gate to its closed position.

Abstract

An engine shutoff valve is provided which includes a valve body having an air passageway in which a disc assembly and a valve seat assembly are located. The disc assembly includes a disc member which is arranged to be rotated and moved toward the valve seat assembly upon the occurrence of an engine runaway condition to close the valve. The valve seat assembly includes an anti-friction ring which is arranged to be engaged by the disc member when the valve is closed. The anti-friction ring is rotatable with respect to the valve body and the disc member to prevent the disc member from sticking thereto after closure of the valve, whereupon the valve can be readily reopened.

Abstract

A shutoff valve, e.g., an engine shutoff valve, is provided which includes a valve body having a fluid, e.g., air, passage and a disc assembly. The disc assembly is pivotable within the fluid passage from an open position to provide for free flow of fluid through the passage, to a closed position to provide a substantially closed off the fluid passage. The disc assembly includes a front disc, a rear disc, and a seal, e.g., a spring energized PTFE seal, disposed between the front disc and the rear disc. The front disc is permanently secured, e.g., welded, soldered or brazed, to the rear disc such that the seal is captured between the front disc and the rear disc.
