A closure mounting structure comprising a mounting frame and a lintel. The mounting frame is for mounting a closure frame of a closure within an aperture in a building. The mounting frame comprises a main frame structure arranged, in use, to extend around a perimeter of the building aperture. The lintel is attached or attachable to a portion of the mounting frame that in use is located at an upper portion of the building aperture such that when attached to the mounting frame the lintel extends beyond the mounting frame on first and second sides of the mounting frame in a plane defined by the main frame structure. The main frame structure may be open on one side and closed by the lintel. The lintel is configured to support a portion of the building above the building aperture. The mounting frame further comprises a mounting flange extending around the main frame structure and defining a sealing surface adapted to abut a building surface outside of the building aperture for locating and sealing the mounting frame in the building aperture. Corresponding methods of use are disclosed.

Abstract

A mounting frame for mounting a closure within an aperture in a building. The mounting frame comprises a main frame structure and insulation. The main frame structure is arranged, in use, to extend around a perimeter of the building aperture. The insulation is on the outside of the main frame structure and extends about the whole or at least part of its periphery. The main frame structure is formed in two parts each terminating with an outwardly extending support flange. The insulation couples together the support flanges and thereby coupling together the two parts of the main frame structure. The support flanges and the insulation are configured such that, in use, the insulation and the support flanges are positioned between interior and exterior wall skins of a wall surrounding the building aperture. There is also disclosed a construction method using the mounting frame.

Abstract

There are disclosed modular building units, building systems, buildings, methods of constructing a building, kits for forming a modular building unit, and methods of constructing a modular building unit of a building. One method of constructing a modular building unit (12aIV)comprises the steps of: providing a service pod (50bIV) configured to perform a service function within the building, the service pod comprising a structural frame (110bIV) having at least one load-bearing support (214); providing a roof structure (99aIV) for the modular building unit; providing a floor structure (103aIV)for the modular building unit, and connecting the service pod to the floor structure to form a modular building unit sub-assembly (200) comprising the service pod and the floor structure, and then connecting the roof structure to the modular building unit sub-assembly to form the modular building unit, by connecting the roof structure to the service pod. The service pod is arranged so that the at least one load-bearing support extends between and connects the roof structure to the floor structure, structural loading being transmitted from the roof structure to the floor structure through the at least one load-bearing support.

Abstract

A mounting frame (10) for mounting a closure (22) within an aperture (12) in a building (14). The mounting frame (10) comprises a main frame structure (16) and a mount (18). The main frame structure (16) is arranged so that, in use, the main frame structure (16) extends around a perimeter of the building aperture (12). The mount (18) is for a closure frame (20) of the closure (22), the mount (18) extending, in use, away from the main frame structure (16) and into the building aperture (12), and comprises an abutment surface (34) adapted to abut a surface of the closure frame (20), to thereby define a mounting location for the closure frame (20) within the building aperture (12). The position of the mount (18) relative to the main frame structure (16) is adjustable along a depth axis (64) of the building aperture (12) in which the mounting frame (10) is to be installed. Alternatively, there may be a kit of mounts (18) provided as separate components. The main frame structure (16) may comprise a coupling feature (98) adapted to receive a mount (18) for coupling the mount (18) to the main frame structure. The kit of mounts (18) comprises two or more different mounts (18), at least one parameter of a first mount (18) of the kit differing from the corresponding parameter of a further one or more mount (18) of the kit.

The mount (18) is for a closure frame (20) of the closure (22), the mount (18) extending, in use, away from the main frame structure (16) and into the building aperture (12), and comprises an abutment surface (34) adapted to abut a surface of the closure frame (20). According to a first embodiment, the main frame structure (16) is for insertion into the building aperture (12) from a first side of the building aperture (12) and defines a first portion extending along a depth axis (64) of the building aperture (12) in which the mounting frame (10) is to be installed. The abutment surface (34) defines a mounting location for the closure frame (20) inserted into the building aperture (12) from a second side of the building aperture (12) opposite to the first side. The internal surface of the first portion of the main frame structure on a second side of the mount comprises a closure reveal component (82). According to a second embodiment insulation (84) is mounted on or provided integrally with at least part of an inner or outer peripheral surface of the main frame structure (16) about at least part of the perimeter of the building aperture. According to a third embodiment a there is provided a method of installing a closure (22) within an aperture (12) of a building (14). The method comprises the steps of: cutting an extruded polymer mounting frame material to form a plurality of mounting frame parts (24, 26, 28, 30); positioning the mounting frame parts (24, 26, 28, 30) within the building aperture (12) to form a mounting frame (10) that extends around a perimeter of the building aperture (12); arranging a mount (18) that extends into the building aperture (12); and bonding or thermally welding the mounting frame parts (24, 25 26, 28, 30) together at their intersections. The method further comprises inserting a closure frame (20) of the closure (22) into an opening of the building aperture (12); translating the closure frame (20) along the building aperture in a direction away from the opening to a mounting location at which a surface of the closure frame (20) contacts an abutment surface (34) defined by the mount (18); and securing the closure frame (20) to the building (14) at the mounting location.

Abstract

A sealing frame (10) for mounting a closure (22) within an aperture (12) in a building (14). The mounting frame (10) comprises a main frame structure (16) and a sealing component (18). The main frame structure (16) is arranged so that, in use, the main frame structure (16) extends around a perimeter of the building aperture (12). The sealing component (18) is for a closure frame (20) of the closure (22), the sealing component (18) extending, in use, away from the main frame structure (16) and into the building aperture (12). In one embodiment first and second sealing surfaces are defined by the sealing frame which face in the same direction and are offset from one another along the depth axis (64) of the building aperture (12). In another embodiment either a frame seal is provided on the sealing component (18) to seal to a closure frame (20) or the sealing frame (10) further comprises a mounting flange (74) having a building seal to seal to the building. In another embodiment a first portion of the main frame structure (16) extends along a depth axis (64) of the building aperture (12) to close a cavity (44) formed between inner (40) and outer (42) building layers and the main frame structure (16) defines a second sealing surface which is adapted to abut a building surface for sealing the sealing frame (10) to the building (14) around the perimeter of the building aperture (12).
