Abstract

A mechanism is provided in a data processing system comprising a processor and a memory, the memory comprising instructions that are executed by the processor to specifically configure the processor to implement a repetitive portion identification and weighting engine. A machine learning model is trained for weighting repetitive portions of patient electronic medical records (EMRs). A repetitive portion identification component applies a plurality of templates to clinical notes of a patient EMR to identify one or more candidate portions that match at least one of the plurality of templates. A content analysis component performs content analysis on the one or more candidate portions to determine whether each given candidate portion is relevant. A weighting component assigns a relative weight to each given candidate portion based on relevance. A cognitive summary graphical user interface (GUI) generation component generates cognitive summary reflecting at least a subset of the one or more candidate portions of the patient EMR. The mechanism outputs the cognitive summary in a GUI to a user.

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided to implement a patient summary generation engine with deduplication of instances of medical concepts. The patient summary generation engine parses a patient electronic medical record (EMR) to extract a plurality of instances of a medical concept, at least two of which utilize different representations of the medical concept. The patient summary generation engine performs a similarity analysis between each of the instances of a medical concept to thereby calculate, for a plurality of combinations of instances of the medical concept, a similarity metric value. The patient summary generation engine clusters the instances of the medical concept based on the calculated similarity metric values for each combination of instances in the plurality of combinations of instances of the medical concept to thereby generate one or more clusters, and select a representative instance of the medical concept from each cluster in the one or more clusters. The patient summary generation engine generates a summary output of the patient EMR comprising the selected representative instances of the medical concept from each cluster.

Abstract

A system and related method exchange medical information with a medical management system. The method comprises receiving, using a processor of a code point resolver, from the medical management system, medical text via a network interface. A code point is a single standardized medical terminology code (SMTC) that corresponds to a medical concept contained within the medical text. The method further applies rule-based logic to process the medical text to form a localized mapping of a text portion of the medical text to a plurality of candidate SMTCs (CSMTCs) that are related to at least one metathesaurus concept entity (MCE) in a metathesaurus, and to determines the code point from the CSMTCs. The method transmits, via the network interface, to the medical management system, the code point.

Abstract

A computer system identifies a medical condition in a patient. A trained machine learning image generator is used to generate a set of training images based on three-dimensional patient imaging data, wherein each training image is labeled with a projection angle of the corresponding two-dimensional projection. Using the set of training images, a machine learning image classifier model is trained to identify patient rotation angles in x-ray images. X-ray images are processed with the machine learning image classifier model to identify patient rotation angles. A machine learning medical condition classifier model is trained to identify a medical condition using the labeled x-ray images. The machine learning medical condition classifier model determines an indication of the medical condition in a patient's x-ray image. Embodiments of the present invention further include a method and program product for identifying a medical condition in a patient in substantially the same manner described above.

Abstract

Methods and systems are provided for detecting focal lesions in multi-phase or multi-sequence medical imaging studies of medical images. One system includes memory for storing medical images and an electronic processor. The electronic processor is configured to: detect native candidate lesions for first phase computer tomography (CT) scans, detect candidate lesions for second phase CT scans, and project the candidate lesions detected for the first phase CT scans and/or the second phase CT scans on a same common domain. Once the candidate lesions are registered together, the electronic processor performs a matching algorithm for each of the native candidate lesions of the first phase CT scans with the registered candidate lesions from the second phase CT scans to determine presence and contours of valid lesions for the medical images, and to discard candidate lesions that are not acceptable.

Abstract

A medical episode analysis engine is provided. The engine generates a first matrix data structure having an entry for each concept pairing and storing a value representing relatedness weighted according to a temporal weighting function. The engine generates a second matrix data structure by calculating, for each entry in the first matrix, a relatedness measure of the concepts in the concept pairing based on a frequency of occurrence together. The engine generates, for each first concept, a concept embedding, based on the second matrix, that specifies, for each other second concept, a temporally weighted relatedness measure. The engine generates, for each anchor concepts, a corresponding episode definition comprising a plurality of related concepts corresponding to a same episode, based on the concept embedding. The engine processes new input data based on the episode definition data structures to identify instances of corresponding episodes in the new input data.

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided for hyperlocal prediction of epidemic dynamics and risks. Regional machine learning training is performed on an infectious disease computer model at least by: receiving first case report data; pre-processing the first case report data to remove noise at least by applying a smoothening algorithm to form first smoothed data; aggregating the first smoothed data into regional data, wherein aggregating the first smoothed data comprises correlating the first smoothed data to a target region corresponding to a population; and training the model using the regional data. The trained model is executed on new second case report data for the target region and automatic monitoring of performance of the model is performed according to a prediction accuracy of the model. In response to the prediction accuracy being below a predetermined threshold, automatic retraining is initiated.

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided to hypothetical scenario evaluations with regard to infectious disease dynamics based on similar regions. A user definition of a hypothetical scenario for a target region is received which specifies scenario features affecting an infectious disease spread amongst a population within the target region. Other predefined regions, in the set of predefined regions, having similar region characteristics to the target region are identified and attributes of the other predefined regions corresponding to the scenario features are identified. Modified model parameter(s) for an infectious disease computer model are derived based on the identified attributes. An instance of the infectious disease computer model is configured with the modified model parameter(s) and the instance is executed on case report data for the target region to generate a prediction for an infectious disease spread in the target region according to the hypothetical scenario, which is then output.

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided for performing automated monitoring and retraining of infectious disease computer models. A trained infectious disease computer model is executed on case report data for a target region to generate prediction results predicting a state of an infectious disease spread within the target region for a given time. The prediction results generated by the trained infectious disease computer model are automatically compared to ground truth data to determine a deviation between the prediction results and the ground truth data. The ground truth data comprises at least one of actual case report data collected and reported by source computing systems for the given time, or a previous prediction result generated by the trained infectious disease computer model. Statistical test(s) are applied to the deviation to determine if it is statistically significant, and if so, re-training of the trained infectious disease computer model is automatically initiated.

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided to adapt computer modeling of an infectious disease based on noisy data and perform hyperlocal prediction of infectious disease dynamics and risks. Case report data is received and a trained background noise computer model is applied to generate first prediction results predicting infectious disease dynamics. The trained background noise computer model is trained to model infectious disease dynamics assuming that there is no community spread of the infectious disease. A first error measure of the first prediction results is determined and, in response to the first error measure being lower than a threshold value, the first prediction results are selected to output as predicted infectious disease dynamics. In response to the first error measure being equal/greater than the threshold value, second prediction results are selected. The second prediction results are generated by applying a trained infectious disease computer model to the received case report data.

Abstract

A candidate generator generates a set of candidate three-dimensional image patches from an input volume. A candidate classifier classifies the set of candidate three-dimensional image patches as containing or not containing disease. Classifying the set of candidate three-dimensional image patches comprises generating an attention mask for each given candidate three-dimensional image patch within the set of candidate three-dimensional image patches to form a set of attention masks, applying the set of attention masks to the set of candidate three-dimensional image patches to form a set of masked image patches, and classifying the set of masked image patches as containing or not containing the disease. The candidate classifier applies soft attention and hard attention to the three-dimensional image patches such that distinctive image regions are highlighted proportionally to their contribution to classification while completely removing image regions that may cause confusion.

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided for compartmental epidemiological computer modeling based on mobility data. Machine learning training of an isolation rate prediction computer model is performed to generate a trained isolation rate prediction model that predicts an isolation rate of a biological population. Isolation data is received which comprises data indicating a measure of mobility of the biological population. The trained isolation rate prediction model is executed on input features extracted from the isolation data to generate a predicted isolation rate. A compartmental epidemiological computer model, comprising a plurality of compartments representing states of a population with regard to an infectious disease, is executed to simulate a progression of the infectious disease and flows of portions of the population from between compartments in the compartmental epidemiological computer model are controlled based on the predicted isolation rate.

A feature selection module performs feature selection on the input data to select a first set of features for a binary classification computer model, a second set of features for a three-level classification computer model, and a third set of features for a regression computer model. The mechanism determines a future predicted transmission rate value for the subsequent time period using the binary classification computer model, the three-level classification computer model, and the regression computer model and generates disease projections for the subsequent time period based on the future predicted transmission rate value and the spatial temporal epidemiological model.

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided to perform selective deep parsing of natural language content. A targeted deep parse natural language processing system is configured to recognize one or more triggers that specify elements within natural language content that indicate a portion of natural language content that is to be targeted with a deep parse operation. A portion of natural language content is received and a pre-deep parse scan operation is performed on the natural language content based on the one or more triggers to identify one or more sub-portions of the natural language content that contain at least one of the one or more triggers. A deep parse is performed on only the one or more sub-portions of the portion of natural language content that contain at least one of the one or more triggers, while other sub-portions of the portion of natural language content are not deep parsed.

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided to implement a fine-grained finding descriptor generation computing tool that automatically generates fine-grained labels for downstream computer system operations. The mechanisms process medical report content based on a core finding lexicon, to extract core finding instances from the medical report content. The mechanisms execute, for each core finding instance, automated computer NLP operations that generate a parse tree for the portion of the medical report content corresponding to the core finding instance, perform phrasal grouping on the parse tree to thereby associate one or more modifiers of core findings specified in the portion of the medical report content with the core finding instance, and generate a fine-grained finding descriptor data structure for the core finding instance based on the association of one or more modifiers of the core finding with the core finding instance.

Abstract

Some embodiments of the present invention select image data that are valuable for developing and/or training a deep learning based algorithm. A semi-automated system identifies cases that are the most valuable (most impactful, useful, and/or most effective) for developing and/or training the deep learning algorithm. The semi-automated system monitors a degree of uncertainty in the results produced by an image processing algorithm. Cases where the degree of uncertainty is high, and consequently a confidence score is low, are made ready for analysis, classification, and/or annotation by human review. Once analyzed, classified and/or annotated by human review, the data is made available for use in developing and/or training the deep learning algorithm.

Abstract

A system, method, and computer program product for treatment planning are disclosed. The system includes at least one processing component, at least one memory component, a training module, a retrieval module, and a plan generator. The training module generates hash codes by hashing features from data sources with data source-specific hash functions, and generates superclass hash codes by hashing the generated hash codes with at least one superclass hash function. The retrieval module extracts features from case data, and locates features from the data sources that are similar to the extracted features. The plan generator calculates outcome probabilities for the case data based on known outcomes associated with the located features.

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided for determining a measure of radiodensity of anatomical structures of interest and classifying medical imaging study data structures (studies) with regard to contrast phase. In some embodiments, this classification may be used to select/exclude slices for processing by other downstream computing systems. A subset of slices are selected from the study and, for each slice in the subset, a corresponding body part regression (BPR) score is determined. A linear regression on the BPR scores is performed and a representative slice is selected based on results of the linear regression. The representative slice is segmented and a statistical measure of a radiodensity metric for each segment in the representative slice is determined.

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided to implement an automated medical imaging report generator which receives an input medical image and inputs the input medical image into a machine learning (ML) computer model trained to predict finding labels based on patterns of image features extracted from the medical image. The ML computer model generates a prediction of a finding label applicable to the input medical image in terms of a finding label prediction output vector. Based on the finding label prediction output vector, a lookup operation is performed, in a medical report database of previously processed medical imaging report data structures, to find a matching medical imaging report data structure corresponding to the finding label. An output medical imaging report is generated for the input medical image based on natural language content of the matching medical imaging report data structure.

Abstract

An approach for training, on a computer, one or more deep learning algorithms with a plurality of mammograms with known outcomes based, at least in part, on using a set of mammograms of each patient in the plurality of mammograms. The approach includes receiving a first set of mammograms of a first patient. The first set of mammograms includes an unevaluated mammogram of the first patient and a set of prior mammograms of the first patient. The approach includes the trained convolutional neural network extracting the set of features from each mammogram of the set of mammograms of the first patient. Furthermore, the approach includes using a second deep learning algorithm of the one or more deep learning algorithms to perform an evaluation of the unevaluated mammogram of the first patient based, at least in part, on the set of prior mammograms of the first patient.

Abstract

According to one or more embodiments of the present invention, an input request to a natural language processing (NLP) system is optimized. A window-size is selected for annotating an input corpus. The corpus is divided into partitions of the window-size, each partition processed separately. Further, a first set of entities is identified in a first partition, and a second set of entities in a second partition. Further, a third partition containing a first segment and a second segment is determined. The first segment overlaps the first partition, and the second segment overlaps the second partition. The method further includes identifying a third set of entities in the third partition. In response to the third set of entities being distinct from a set of entities from the first segment and the second segment, the window-size is adjusted. The input request for the NLP system is generated using the adjusted window-size.
