Gel-spun ultra-high molecular weight ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) polyethylene filaments are disclosed which are optimized for their use in permanent load applications. Yarns comprising at least 25 permanent load optimized UHMWPE filaments, a titer of at least 50 dtex, a filament titer of at least 0.50 dtex, a tensile modulus of at least 1500 cN/dtex and a minimum creep rate of at most 5.0x10-7 s-1 when measured at 70°C under a load of 400 MPa are also disclosed. The UHMWPE may be a linear homopolymer of ethylene.
