EXTERIOR FACING STRETCH AND FLAME RESISTANT SEAM TAPE
A garment having at least two fabric substrates where the substrates are joined together at a seam over which a stretchable, exterior-facing seam tape is applied is provided. The seam tape includes a flame resistant fabric and a liquid barrier layer. The seam tape can further include a separate adhesive layer. The seam tape covers the seam and contacts an exterior surface of the first fabric substrate and an exterior surface of the second fabric substrate. Moreover, the seam tape can have stretch and exhibit similar properties to that of the two fabric substrates. Further, in one embodiment, the color and pattern of the seam tape matches the fabric substrates to which the seam tape is applied. Also described is a method for forming the seam tape and attaching the seam tape to a base fabric/seam.
Embodiments of the present invention use melamine-based resins as a pretreatment on fabrics and fabric blends in combination with phosphorus-based flame retardants to improve flame retardant performance, durability, and further promote char formation in a combustion zone of the fabric.

A modular garment system includes an attachment system for attaching multiple garments together. In one embodiment, the garment system includes an upper body garment that is attachable to a lower body garment. The upper body garment includes a plurality of connectors that are aligned with a plurality of retaining members on the lower body garment. The retaining members on the lower body garment, for instance, may be placed on top of existing belt loops. The retaining members may include a flap, while the connectors may have a loop-like structure. In order to connect the upper body garment to the lower body garment, the flap may be inserted into the loop-like structure and secured to the lower body garment. The upper body garment can also include a draw cord that can be used to further secure the upper body garment against the lower body garment.
An elbow pad is provided for an upper body garment with a sleeve portion having a shoulder end and a wrist end. The elbow pad includes padding material and a substantially J-shaped preferential fold line. The preferential fold line is configured so that the padding material bends along the preferential fold line to cup the wearer's elbow. The elbow pad may have multiple layers. The elbow pad may be attached to an upper body garment, and may be done so as to fill an opening in a sleeve portion of the garment.

Described herein are various embodiments of a cold-weather garment. In one exemplary embodiment, a long-sleeve upper-body cold-weather garment includes a torso portion and two sleeve portions that are attached to and extend from opposite edges of the torso portion. The torso portion is made from a first material and the sleeve portions are each made from a second material. The first material is lighter per unit area and more breathable than the second material. The second material is heavier per unit area than the first material, but is more resistant to cold-weather environmental conditions. For example, the second material is water resistant, flame resistant and comprises an outer surface having a camouflage pattern. In some implementations, the second material is made up of at least approximately 50% hydrophobic fibers, includes a coating having water-repellant characteristics, and/or includes a multi-layer composite fabric that includes a water-resistant membrane made from either polyurethane or polytetrafluoroethylene.
