The present invention provides activated carbon for virus inactivation, constituted of, for example, activated carbon or the like containing nitrogen atoms and having as a carbon source a phenol resin composition containing a phenol resin and a nitrogen-atom-containing compound, wherein the nitrogen atoms are derived from at least one nitrogen-atom-containing compound selected from silk, lysine, chitin, chitosan, glucosamine, melamine-derived compounds, and urea-derived compounds, the activated carbon for virus inactivation has a DNA adsorption capacity of 10 μg/g or more, and the activated carbon for virus inactivation has favorable virus inactivation capability.
