Abstract

A system and method for using an advanced associator for tracking marine vessels. The system receives a list of all the observed ships and candidate ships and their known properties which is provided to the advanced associator module which will output a report that lists the associations between the observed ships and the candidate ships, including uncertainties about these associations. The advanced associator collects any information about the properties of the observed ships and of the candidate ships. Then it compares these ship properties and quantifies the overall quality of the comparisons. Finally, it makes a global decision about which observed ship is which candidate ship and provides probabilities that quantify the certainty of its decision.

Abstract

A method of generating a simulated image for training a model to detect resident space objects (RSOs), a method of training the model, and a method of detecting RSOs are provided. The method includes generating a foreground of the simulated image including RSOs by calculating coordinates of an imaging satellite at a given time, determining an area of interest given a field of view (FOV) of the imaging satellite, and calculating coordinates of all RSOs and saving the coordinates if the RSO is within the area of interest. The method further includes generating a background of the simulated image including stars by querying a star catalogue database for coordinates of all stars that fall inside the FOV, adding noise, and translating RSO and star coordinates to pixel coordinates. The method further includes generating the simulated image by choosing an imaging mode, setting an exposure time, and rendering the simulated image.

A system and method for satellite imaging are provided. The system includes a first satellite, a trailing satellite, and a ground terminal. The first satellite acquires synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image data in a first predetermined signal frequency band at a first imaging location and transmits the SAR image data to a ground terminal. The ground terminal determines a second imaging location from the SAR image data and transmits the second imaging location to the trailing satellite. The trailing satellite acquires higher resolution image data in a second predetermined signal frequency band at the second imaging location and transmits the image data to the ground terminal. Systems and methods for satellite imaging are also provided in which a first satellite captures image data and processes the image data onboard to generate a processed product which is transmitted to a receiving terminal at a ground terminal or on a second satellite.
