POWER TOOL ATTACHMENT FOR FORMING SPHERICAL OR PARTIALLY SPHERICAL SURFACES
A power tool attachment for forming a spherical or partially spherical surface on a workpiece comprises a bit that is connectable to a rotatable drive head of a power tool. An end of the bit comprises a cutting tool. The power tool attachment further comprises a base engageable with the power tool for bearing against the workpiece. The base comprises at least one annular guide surface dimensioned such that, when the base is engaged with the power tool, the annular guide surface extends around the bit and faces toward or away from a longitudinal axis of the bit for guiding the cutting tool relative to the workpiece to form the spherical or partially spherical surface on the workpiece.

A cutting tool mechanism 11 for providing a cutting, abrading or grinding action is disclosed. The mechanism 11 has an inner circular part 17 having teeth 19 extending radially outwardly, a surrounding circular part 25 having inner teeth 27 extending radially inwardly. The circular parts 17 and 25 co-operate by engagement their teeth 19 and 27. Rotation of one circular part causes the other to move constrained by the engagement of the teeth in an orbital, oscillatory or impact motion. An input coupling 81 is provided for transmission of rotary motion, and an output coupling 37 is provided to transmit said orbital, oscillatory or impact motion to a blade 13. A sander mechanism (11) having a sanding head (15) mounted for rotation at one end of a spindle 17, with its axis offset from the spindle axis. The spindle (17) incorporates counterbalancing to dynamically balance the mechanism (11). The sander mechanism (11) has a sander head nominal diameter to counterbalanced shaft length that is square to over-square in configuration, and the sanding head (15) is capable of sanding with force applied in the same direction as the rotational axis of the spindle, through oblique, to across the axis, without biting into the work piece. In use, the spindle (17) is mounted to an angle grinder to provide a stable and easily controllable random orbital sander.

The cutting tool (1) imparts an oscillatory motion in the cutting edges (11, 12) to cut the material (22) from between the two edges (19 and 20), simultaneously. The cutting tool is useful for removing caulking from between adjacent building panels. Various types of cutting blades (9 and 10) are described.
