Abstract

A zipper closure arrangement for use with a reclosable package includes: a first attachment flange and a second attachment flange; a first zipper profile member extending from the first attachment flange; a second zipper profile member extending from the second attachment flange and positioned to releasably mate with the first zipper profile member. The first and second attachment flanges each having an area of weakness and are sealed together along a seal region. The seal region is between the area of weakness and terminal ends of the first attachment flange and the second attachment flange. This results in a tear-off region that is straight and consistent.

Abstract

A method of manufacturing a film includes forming a blend containing a renewable content starch, a renewable content mineral, and polyethylene, operating a mass flow hopper to maintain a consistent mass flow rate of the blend to a feed throat of an extruder, and operating the extruder with a screw speed and melt temperature based on the amount by weight of the starch and mineral within the blend. The melt is passed through a screen pack with a mesh rating based on the amount by weight of the starch and mineral within the blend, is passed through a die, and is cooled into a film. The film is nipped to a gauge such that the film can be formed into a bag.

Abstract

A recloseable zipper pouch includes a recloseable zipper with interlocking profiles. At least one of the profiles has a grasping flange with a free end positionable both above and below the interlocking profile, and an attachment flange below the interlocking profile and attached to the wall of the pouch at an anchored portion on the attachment flange. The grasping flange is unattached to the first wall between opposite sidewall edges of the pouch. The complementary interlocking profile is attached to the opposite pouch wall. Some pouches can also include an opening in a side wall of the pouch to provide access to a portion of the grasping flange.

Abstract

A zipper closure includes mating first and second profiles, which releasably interlock along a parting line along the side. A slider can be used to open and close the slider. The slider has a channel, which receives an ear on the second profile, and the ear rides through the ear-receiving channel to align engaging structure of the first and second profiles and roll them together into interlocked engagement. The slider has a splitter on a deflectable tab, which can be pressed into a notch on the zipper closure to initially separate the mating profiles, while moving the slider to direct the ear into an ear-receiving channel in the slider and deflect the ear to a side and pry open and separate the profiles.

Abstract

A method and apparatus for securing a zipper closure to polymeric film using minimal tension on the zipper closure includes providing first and second tension control loops, an eyemark detector, and a hole punch programmed to punch a hole in the zipper closure upon detection of the eyemark. The zipper closure and the film are supplied to a sealing station at the same speed, and the hole zipper closure is aligned with the eyemark on the film, to result in sealing the strip of zipper closure to the film resulting in minimal wrinkles to the resulting bag.

Abstract

A recycle/re-manufacturing program to enable the collection of products to re-use them in a re-manufacturing processes to create valuable products which can be also be broken down at the end of their lives and re-used. It has been found that the bio-plastic materials can be re-used up to ten times with no degradation in properties. Enabling multiple collections and re-use of the materials. A benefit is that tech factories receive clean waste streams and low-cost materials which can be re-used multiple times.

Abstract

A slider zipper closure system includes a zipper closure with complementary profiles of opposing tracks for interlocking and unlocking; the closure a first end stop and a second end stop positioned opposite ends of the closure. A slider device is positioned on the zipper closure between and engaging the first end stop and second end stop to selectively: (i) unlock the complementary profiles as the slider device is moved along the tracks in an opening direction; and (ii) interlock the complementary profiles as the slider device is moved along the tracks in a closing direction. The slider device has a first end stop engagement surface positioned inboard from the closing end and adapted to strike the first end stop.

Abstract

A reclosable zipper pouch includes a reclosable zipper with interlocking profiles.

Abstract

A connection device for fastening two expanded cellular confinement structures includes an insertion member having insertion ends, an insertion member extension, an integral shank, and a handle member. A cellular confinement system includes first and second webs of cells made from strips bonded together in spaced apart areas. The strips form walls of the cells and at least some of the cells define open slots. At least one connection device fastens the first web and the second web together through the open slots. A method of fastening two expanded cellular confinement structures includes aligning two expanded cellular confinement structures; inserting an insertion member of a connection device through open slots; and turning the connection device.

Abstract

A method for packaging bags includes providing a plurality of bags arranged in a stack; moving the stack of bags to a tube; rotating the stack of bags to form a rolled set of bags; and moving the rolled set of bags into a packaging container. A system for carrying out the method includes a plate having an open gap sized to support the stack of bags over the open gap; a tube having a longitudinal slot oriented to receive the stack of bags; a finger arrangement to move the stack of bags into the tube and then rotate the stack into a rolled set; and a push member to move the rolled set of bags into a packaging container.

Abstract

Paperboard plate includes a base having a substantially smooth flat surface, a plurality of side walls extending upwardly from the base, and a plurality of corner walls. Each side wall and each corner wall has a substantially straight upper edge. Each corner wall is disposed between a pair of adjacent side walls. The length of the upper edge of each corner wall is less than the length of the upper edge of each side wall. Furthermore, each side wall can include a lower portion and an upper portion at different angles relative each other.

Abstract

An open mat system to reinforce turf includes an anchor arrangement to help secure the mat to the turf. The anchor arrangement includes an anchor head embedded in the earth, a cable connected to the anchor head, a cable connector device, and a brace. The cable is inserted into the connector device, which holds the cable against withdrawal from the connector device. The brace includes a receiver, in which the cable connector device is removably oriented in the receiver.

Abstract

The present invention relates to encapsulated activated carbon and a method of preparing the same to protect the structure of the activated carbon and preserve the odor absorbing capability of the activated carbon particles. Particularly, the present invention is directed to a polymer article having odor absorption capabilities comprising a film comprising a matrix polymer and activated carbon particles at least partially encapsulated with a non-water soluble amorphous polymer, wherein the non-water soluble amorphous polymer is incompatible with the matrix polymer. The polymer article can be a bag.

Abstract

A blown-film process for making a fiber-reinforced film comprises providing and melting at least one thermoplastic resin. The at least one thermoplastic resin is extruded through an extension die to form a film bubble. A plurality of fibers is introduced inside of the film bubble. The fibers are distributed inside of the film bubble. The film bubble is collapsed after introducing the plurality of fibers so as to form a fiber-reinforced film. The fiber-reinforced film has a first thermoplastic layer, a second thermoplastic layer, and a plurality of fibers dispersed therebetween. The film may be formed in a bag.
