Abstract

Cellulose fiber-based sheets are provided herein. The sheets are particularly useful for insulation, construction and/or packaging material. A cellulose fiber-based sheet comprises a layer comprising untreated pulp impregnated with cationized vegetable wax. The cellulose fibers can be provided with a cationized vegetable wax thereby modifying the sheet to the extent that a hydrophobic surface is formed. The cationized vegetable wax attaches to the fluffy, fibrous surface of the sheet and seals the surface so that the so-called lotus effect is observed. The material is environmentally friendly, sustainable and imparts water repellence and a water vapour barrier to insulation materials, construction materials, packaging materials and the like.

Abstract

Odor-absorbing sheet-like structure comprising vegetable and/or manmade fibers, in particular a sheet-like structure having an air permeability suitable for filters and vacuum cleaner bags, which sheet-like structure has zinc ricinoleate in an amount in the range of 0.1 to 20% by weight, based on the weight of the sheet-like structure, in finely divided solid form on at least a part of the free fiber surface, and method for its production by treatment of a sheet-like structure with a dispersion of fine zinc ricinoleate particles or by spraying on a mist of a melt or solution of zinc ricinoleate.
