Abstract

A water supply monitoring system in connection with a supply line includes sensors configured to detect supply properties, including a temperature, flow rate, and/or a pressure in the supply line. A controller receives the supply properties from the sensors and compares the supply properties to detection metrics. Abstract

A dielectric union ball valve utilizes a non-conductive separation sleeve to prevent contact between the union and the nut of a dielectric valve assembly. The valve assembly can optionally include an independently operated drain valve port to permit draining of the valve assembly. The use and positioning of a non-conductive separation sleeve mitigates potential galvanic reaction between dissimilar pipes and/or fittings that are connected to the valve assembly.

Abstract

A 3-way T-flow ball drain valve permits the draining/filling/purging of a hydronic or plumbing system at the end of the line. This permits the orientation of a drain port in either horizontal or vertical position while permitting end of line draining. A drain valve member is positioned to permit the opening of the drain port when the T-ball valve member in the tee-shaped valve body has been open to permit flow toward the drain port.

Abstract

A water supply monitoring system in connection with a supply line includes a fluid sensor configured to identify flow rate data identifying a flow rate of water through the supply line. A controller is configured to receive the flow rate data from the fluid sensor and compare the flow rate data over time to a plurality of flow rate models. The flow rate models define flow rate characteristics of a plurality of preconfigured water implements. The controller is further configured to classify a water consumption identified by the flow rate data as being consumed by a plurality of consumption implements in connection with the supply line in a plurality of consumption classifications.

Abstract

A fluid supply monitoring system includes a fluid sensor configured to identify a flow rate of a fluid through a supply line. The system comprises a valve configured to control the flow rate through the supply line and a pressure sensor configured to detect a fluid pressure. A controller is configured to receive the flow rate data and identify fluid consumption from the supply line based on the flow rate. The controller is further configured to compare the fluid consumption of a usage event to one of a time limit and a volume limit. In response to the fluid consumption exceeding the time limit or the volume limit, the controller controls the valve to a closed position and identifies a potential fluid leak. With the valve in the closed position, the controller processes a verification procedure that identifies whether the potential fluid leak is an actual fluid leak.

Abstract

A double vented transition elbow can be used when venting a variety of applications, such as for baseboard heaters and hot water heating systems. The double vented elbow allows venting in one orientation or in a different orientation when the elbow is rotated. One end of the elbow couples to copper tubing, while the other end of the elbow couples to PEX tubing. Thus, the elbow not only allows for venting in two different orientations, it also allows for the transition from copper to PEX tubing within the same fitting.

Abstract

An isolation valve has a reversible handle and multiple seals between the valve stem and valve housing. The handle includes a portion that engages a handle stop that is attached to the valve body. When the handle is reversed, the stop is moved to another handle stop opening in the valve body. Thus, the handle direction can be reversed without removal of the handle. A locking plate may be used with the isolation valve. The locking plate includes portions that engage a lock and the handle stop. When the handle direction is reversed, the locking plate can be rotated around the stem to engage the repositioned handle stop.

Abstract

A crimp connection fitting includes a socket with at least one annular recess axially spaced from an annular O-ring receiving groove. The recess includes a plurality of axially spaced crimping elements such that, when the socket is crimped, it grips a conduit positioned within the socket. The crimping elements preferably are split ring spring clips. In some embodiments, multiple spaced recesses support one or more crimping elements.

Abstract

A plumbing fitting that includes: a fitting body having a plurality of ends; and a cover element joined to the body with a weld in proximity to and spaced from an interface in contact with a potable or non-potable aqueous medium. The body and the cover element are fabricated from a lead-free or low lead, copper or copper-silicon alloy having a thermal conductivity of ≤45 W/(m*K). Further, the weld has a centerline that is ≤6.4 mm from the interface and/or a heat affected zone that has an average width ≤400 μm and is spaced from the interface. The plumbing fittings include but are not limited to ball valves, gate valves, elbows, check valves and other fittings without stems.

Abstract

A pipe socket for making a threaded pipe connection that includes: a socket body defining a threaded portion, a cavity and a stop; an O-ring positioned within the cavity; and a plurality of interrupted series of tapping threads defined on an internal surface of the socket body in the threaded portion. The cavity is configured to receive a pipe and the stop is configured to stop a pipe received within the cavity. Each of the interrupted series of tapping threads is circumferentially equidistant from the adjacent interrupted series of tapping threads. Further, each of the interrupted series of tapping threads comprises threads arranged axially on the internal surface of the socket body for forming threads on a pipe received within the cavity.

Abstract

A brass fitting is in-molded in a plastic pipe fitting, which is coupled to a water supply line in a conventional matter. The brass insert receives a tapered seal with sealing surfaces that seat against the brass insert and a sprinkler head to form a sealed connection. The seal includes a tapered passageway for compression when tightening, as well as an external taper to allow the seal to conform to the socket formed by the plastic pipe fitting and brass insert. Also, a manufacturing method includes in-molding a brass insert within a plastic fitting using an O-ring which interfaces between the brass insert and surrounding molded fitting to seal the brass insert to the fitting. In one embodiment, the seal is used in a polymeric fitting without a brass insert.

Abstract

A push-to-connect modular cartridge for a plumbing fitting includes a cylindrical cup having an annular surface at one end and a cylindrical shoulder at an opposite end. A circular seal is positioned against the annular surface, and a circular backing ring is positioned against the seal on a side opposite the annular surface. A grab ring including inwardly projecting tines is seated against the backing ring on a side opposite the seal, and a containment ring contacts the grab ring on a side opposite the backing ring. The containment ring is engaged by the shoulder of the cup to hold the containment ring, grab ring, backing ring, and seal together. This modular push-to-connect cartridge can be welded to a plumbing fitting which uses significantly less material, thereby greatly reducing the cost to manufacture.

Abstract

A valve system includes a spring-biased locking slide plate which extends in an axial direction parallel to and offset from the axis of the valve stem and selectively extends through a base plate mounted to the top of a valve to selectively engage stop tabs on the valve body. The locking slide plate also extends through the valve handle and through a locking member to selectively lock the valve in open or closed positions. In one embodiment, the locking slide plate comprises two sections which include a lower section having tines which selectively engage tabs on the valve body and a second upper section which is spring-biased to the lower section to float to allow the lower section to accommodate different diameter valve bodies.
