Abstract

A lightweight composite concrete cover is provided for subgrade trenches and vaults. The lightweight cover comprises at least one low density layer that has a low density filler material such as polyethylene terephthalate beads. The low density layer substantially reduces the overall weight of the cover, and the remaining layers provide sufficient structure for the cover to pass rigorous load and chemical exposure testing. In addition, a method of manufacturing a lightweight cover is provided that promotes the combination of different layers of the cover and the cross linking of polymer chains between layers of the cover. The lightweight cover has substantial weight savings and also meets rigorous testing standards such that a worker can manually remove the cover, transportation costs are realized, and worker safety is improved.

Abstract

Structures, methods, and assemblies for stormwater management systems with one or more internal bypass features incorporated into a vault-shaped enclosure are described, along with methods and additional structures that are useful for managing stormwater flow and inhibiting the flow of pollutants, debris, and other contaminants into drainage systems. A first compartment disposed within the vault and comprising a removable bypass pipe, a baffle wall adjacent to the bypass pipe, a screened floatables baffle attached to the baffle wall, and a fluid-conveyance opening disposed along the baffle wall are described. A fluid-conveyance opening is located below the top of a bypass pipe, and a second compartment is in fluid communication with the first compartment through the fluid-conveyance opening. A second compartment is adapted to incorporate a filtration cartridge. An underdrain defined at least in part by the upper and lower floor slabs of the vault is disposed below and in fluid communication with the first compartment through the bypass pipe.

Abstract

The invention concerns an apparatus, its use within a treatment plant and the method of operating the treatment plant for managing storm water flow and inhibiting the flow of pollutants, debris, and other contaminants into drainage systems. The apparatus comprises a flow diverter installed at an inlet (3) of a treatment area (4), such as a bioretention treatment area or a storm water retention and detention system whereby in normal use, water is directed to the treatment area and in the case of strong rain falls, water is bypassed the treatment area. The bypass comprises a bypass opening in an internal wall in the form of a weir such that excess water flows over the weir directly to the outlet (7) without passing through the treatment area.

Abstract

An edger is provided that includes a cylindrically shaped attachment member that includes at least one tooth for interlocking relationship with another attachment member. The interlocking relationship prevents relative motion between the attached edgers. The edger further comprises a plurality of arcuate members that help support the wall against the restrained pavers and which provide stiffness to the wall.

Abstract

A concrete lid for an in-ground utilities box includes a reinforcement structure filled with concrete. The reinforcement structure includes a plastic frame and one or more reinforcing trusses that extend between opposing sidewalls of the plastic frame. The reinforcing trusses also extend substantially between the upper and lower edges of the opposing sidewalls. For example, a reinforcing truss may include a flat truss member that is substantially coplanar with the lower edges of the sidewalls, and an arched truss member that extends towards (but does not reach) a plane defined by the upper edges of the sidewalls. The reinforcing trusses include openings that allow wet concrete to pass through. The sidewalls of the plastic frame protect the edges of the lid from damage. The reinforcing trusses reinforce the concrete lid, eliminating the need for separate reinforcement material.

Abstract

A wall panel is provided that is comprised of a plurality of spaced foam insulative blocks. Between each block is a metal stud that spans the height of the wall panel and provides sufficient strength to counteract any compressive loads the wall panel may encounter. The presence of the insulation panels provides large surface areas for the receipt of a thin layer of cementious or gypsum based material that is adapted to receive nails and be easily cut. In addition, the decreased weight of the exterior wall allows for the omission of reinforcing internal structure within the exterior wall which is found in the prior art, thereby providing a lightweight and easy to fabricate wall.
