The present invention provides a cargo imaging device which allows for asset IR illumination and monitoring of the interior of a closed cargo container. According to a first preferred embodiment, the imaging device of the present invention includes a housing which encloses a central lens. The central lens is preferably located between an upper IR light guide and a lower IR light guide. Preferably, the central lens may be formed as a fish-eye lens. The present invention relates to a system, method and apparatus for transmitting data reports at adjustable reporting rates based on detected rates of change in the heading of a tracked asset. According to a preferred embodiment, upon detection of a heading change, the device of the present invention may preferably power a location detection device (e.g., a GPS receiver or the like) to determine an accurate location. At the same time, the asset device may preferably monitor and store both the current heading and the rate of change of the heading. Based on the detected rate of change of the heading, the system may preferably select and update a report frequency based on a lookup table. An automatic identification system (AIS) communications payload for a space vehicle traveling in earth orbit includes an antenna; a receiver connected to the antenna to receive an AIS signal including a reported vessel position transmitted from a vessel; a processor to process the received AIS messages and determine the accuracy of the reported vessel position; and a transmitter to transmit the processed AIS messages and the determined accuracy to a ground earth element. The processor may be configured to determine a position of the space vehicle; compare the reported vessel position to the space vehicle position; and determine the accuracy of the reported vessel position based on the comparison. The processor also may be configured to flag the AIS message as suspect when the reported vessel position is determined to be inaccurate.
A spaced-based system to simultaneously track and monitor one or More ocean going vessels at any point on the earth includes a plurality of satellites.
