Abstract

The invention relates to a powder press (1) for producing a compact from a powdered material, comprising a frame, a punch arrangement (13) and a mould arrangement (14) which defines a mould cavity that can be filled with the powdered material, and a motor unit (10) which is actively connected to the punch arrangement (13) and/or to the mould arrangement (14) via a drive train (11-12). In order to form a compact, the punch arrangement (13) and the mould arrangement (14) are moved relative to one another along a pressing axis by means of the motor unit (10) via the drive train (11-12) and are pressed against one another. The drive train (11-12) extending from the motor unit (10) to the punch arrangement (13) and/or the mould arrangement (14) comprises a bent area (11a, 12a) that comprises a bend between a first straight line of action (L1) of a first drive train section (11) and a second straight line of action (L2) of a second drive train section (12). The second drive train section (12) has an inner subsection (12') located on the side facing the bent area (11a, 12a) and an outer subsection (12") on the side facing the punch arrangement (13) and/or the mould arrangement (14). The two subsections (12', 12") of the second drive train section (12) are arranged such that they are movable relative to one another (F4) in a direction transverse to the second straight line of action (L2) of the second drive train section (12) along a fourth straight line of action (L4) which extends parallel to the direction of the first straight line of action (L1).

Abstract

The invention relates to a press and to a method for pressing a material by means of said press. According to the invention, the following steps are carried out prior to starting the pressing process: determining the torque time curve M(t) of the electric motor of the press during a given pressing cycle of the press; determining the current effective value (current quadratic average value) QMWa of the torque time curve M(t) of the electric motor for the given pressing cycle as a fourth parameter; and determining the expected current electric motor end temperature Tenda that corresponds to said current effective value on the basis of the current effective value QMWa of the torque time curve M(t), by means of interpolation or extrapolation for example, using previously determined data pairs (QMW; Tend) which are stored in the storing unit and each of which includes an effective value QMW of a torque time curve and an expected end temperature Tend that is assigned to said effective value, and the result of said determination is displayed by means of the display unit. The invention allows the prevention of an unplanned standstill of a press during the pressing operation, said standstill being caused by an accumulation of heat in an electric motor, without having to resort to an expensive larger electric motor with lower dynamics.

Abstract

The invention relates to a powder press (1) for producing a pressed piece from a powdered material, comprising a frame (2), a punch arrangement (4), and a die arrangement (4) which defines a die cavity that can be filled with said powdered material. The punch arrangement (4) and the die arrangement (4) can then be moved relative to one another along a press stroke axis Z-Z and pressed against each other in order to form the pressed piece. According to the invention, the die arrangement (4) and/or the punch arrangement (4) contain(s) a linking element (41) connected to two driving means (9, 10), as well as a die plate (42) and/or punch plate (42) guided on guiding means (5, 6, 7, 8) along the stroke direction Z-Z and connected to said linking element (41). Each of the driving means (9, 10) is connected to the linking element (41) by means of a flexible connecting means (11, 12; 11', 12'). These flexible connecting means lie on a first straight line X-X which is orthogonal to the press stroke axis Z-Z. The linking element (41) is connected to the die plate (42) or the punch plate (42) by means of a further flexible connecting means (13; 14, 15; 13'; 14', 15'). Said further flexible connecting means (13; 14, 15; 13'; 14', 15') is arranged, equidistantly between the flexible connecting means (11, 12; 11', 12') and on a second straight line Y-Y that is orthogonal to the press stroke axis Z-Z and orthogonal to the first straight line X-X, in such a manner that the resulting tractive or thrusting forces transmitted by the third flexible connecting means (13; 14, 15; 13'; 14', 15') are introduced into the die plate (42) or the punch plate (42) at a point on a vertical straight line that runs through the centre of gravity of the die plate (42) or the punch plate.

Abstract

A powder press for producing a metal powder compact comprises an upper stamping apparatus and a lower stamping apparatus (1) in which is kept the matrix arrangement (3) forming the mold cavity (8) into which the metal powder is filled, whereupon the pressing process is carried out. The lower stamping apparatus (1) is equipped with a plate (2) on which the matrix arrangement (3) is placed and to which plate (2) lateral pressing devices (4) are fastened. Each lateral pressing device (4) is equipped with a lateral pressing stamp (5) that can be linearly driven by a drive unit and that can be pressed into and retracted out of the mold cavity (8) in the lateral pressing direction through an opening (6) in the matrix (7) substantially perpendicular to the pressing direction. The drive unit of each lateral pressing device (4) comprises a linear drive unit with a fixed part fastened to the frame (18) of the lateral pressing device (4) and a linearly moveable part relative to the fixed part, said linearly moveable part being connected to a first wedge (19), the wedge surface (22) of which acts on the wedge surface (23) of a second wedge (24) that can be moved substantially perpendicular to the first wedge (19) in the direction of lateral pressing. This allows compacts to be produced which exhibit lateral holes, side impressions or side impressions and bulges applied during the pressing process, wherein the forces incident to the lateral pressing direction can be optimally absorbed.
