A plug for a high pressure canister, the plug having a body defining a peripheral wall adapted to be a sealed fit in the neck of the opening in the canister by crimping the neck of the canister against the peripheral wall, the plug having a first and second axially spaced grooves adapted to accommodate the crimp of the neck, and an axially extending slot behind the first groove communicating with the interior of the canister whereby in the event of the first groove being forced past the crimp by high pressure within the canister, the slot causes release of the internal pressure and the second groove engages the crimp to hold the plug in the opening of the canister.
