A system and method for placing an overwrap material (22) on a bobbin (12) of material is disclosed. The bobbin (12) of material may be, for instance, a bobbin of paper, such as cigarette paper. The system automatically attaches the overwrap material (22) to a leading edge of the bobbin (12), wraps the bobbin in the overwrap material, cuts the overwrap material, and secures the overwrap material to the bobbin.
