A multi-zoned screening apparatus is disclosed for separating fiber from a liquid medium during, for example, a grain wet mill or dry grind process. The apparatus can include a housing having a first and second zone and situated adjacent one another along a length of the housing. A cylindrical screen having a plurality of openings is situated lengthwise within the housing to correspond with the first and second zones. A conveyor is situated lengthwise within the screen and includes an elongated shaft having a first and second conveyor section and along a length of the conveyor that corresponds with the first and second zones, respectively. Each conveyor section is configured to move material in a direction along a length of the screen. In one example, the first conveyor section includes vanes and a ribbon flight helically winding about the vanes, and the second conveyor section includes a plurality of paddles.

A cylindrical screen (102) having a plurality of openings (104) is situated lengthwise within the housing 106 to correspond with the first and second zones (116A, 116B). A conveyor (130) is situated lengthwise within the screen (102) and includes an elongated shaft (132) having a first and second conveyor section (134A and 134B) along a length of the conveyor (130) that corresponds with the first and second zones (116A, 116B), respectively. Each conveyor section (134A, 134B) is configured to move material in a direction along a length of the screen (102). In one example, the first conveyor section (134A) includes vanes (136) and a ribbon flight (140) helically winding about the vanes (136), and the second conveyor section (134B) includes a plurality of paddles (146).
An apparatus (40, 200) for filtering a material from a medium includes a first housing (44, 204) having a wall with a plurality of openings formed therein, a conveyor (46, 206) disposed in the housing (44, 204) for moving the material therealong, and a conduit line (48, 208) communicating with the interior of the housing (44, 204) for supplying the medium to the apparatus (40, 200). At least one of the first housing (44, 204) and the conveyor (46, 206) rotate relative to a central axis to direct the medium toward the wall so as to separate the material from the medium. A method for filtering a material from a medium includes supplying the medium to a first housing, spinning the medium within the housing, passing the medium through a wall of the housing to separate the material from the medium, moving the material along the housing, introducing a fluid into the material within the housing, and washing the material using the fluid.
