Abrégé

The present invention relates in one aspect to an endoscopic biopsy device (1, 2) for collecting multiple samples (10x). The endoscopic biopsy device comprises a tubular body (10) having in an axial direction a distal end and a proximal end, jaws (20, 21, 22) that are hinged to the distal end of the body, wherein the jaws are operable between an OPEN position and a CLOSED position to secure a tissue sample (100), and wherein the jaws in the CLOSED position define a sampling chamber (23); a collecting chamber (13) for receiving multiple samples, the collecting chamber being located within the body in an axial direction proximally adjacent to the sampling chamber; and an axially extending collecting member (30) for transfixing secured samples, the collecting member being axially displaceable between a retracted position in the collecting chamber and a deployed position where the collecting member penetrates into the sampling chamber. The tubular body comprises within the region of the collecting chamber at least one flexible section. Preferably, the jaws comprise retaining elements configured to engage when the jaws are in the CLOSED position, thereby separating the sampling chamber and the collecting chamber from each other. The retaining elements disengage when the jaws are in the OPEN position, thereby providing a passage for the transfer of transfixed samples into and out of the collecting chamber.

Abrégé

An endoscopic biopsy device for collecting samples. The device includes a tubular body having distal and proximal ends and jaws hinged to the distal end. The jaws operate between OPEN and CLOSED positions to secure a tissue sample. In the CLOSED position, the jaws define a sampling chamber. A collecting chamber for receiving samples is located within the body near the sampling chamber. A collecting member for transfixing secured samples is displaceable between a retracted position in the collecting chamber and a deployed position where the collecting member penetrates into the sampling chamber. The jaws include retaining elements projecting inwardly on a portion of the jaws. The retaining elements engage when the jaws are CLOSED, separating the sampling and collecting chambers from each other. The retaining elements disengage when the jaws are OPEN, providing a passage for the transfer of transfixed samples into and out of the collecting chamber.

Abrégé

An endoscopic biopsy instrument 100 comprises an elongate flexible shaft 2, a biopsy device 1 arranged at a distal end of the shaft 2, and operating controls arranged at a proximal end of the shaft 2. The endoscopic biopsy device 1 comprises at least one moveable element 3 that is operable for securing a tissue sample by means of one or more power actuators 6, 7 arranged in a distal portion of the endoscopic instrument 100, wherein the power actuators 6, 7 comprise a shape memory alloy (SMA). The moveable element 3 is actuated by a set of counteracting SMA actuator wires 6/7 coupled to the moveable element 3 and arranged such that contraction of a drive SMA actuator wire 6 actuates a drive movement in a direction from a first position to a second position of the moveable element 3 and elongates a recovery SMA actuator wire 7, and accordingly contraction of the recovery SMA actuator wire 7 actuates a recovery movement in a direction from the second position to the first position of the moveable element 3 and elongates the drive SMA actuator wire 6.
