Abrégé
A side grip pile driver for driving elongated objects into a ground surface comprising: a body for attaching the pile driver to a working machine; a first and second jaw member moveably attached to the body, each jaw member having a clamping interface for clamping onto the side of an object to be driven; and a driving means arranged to move at least one of the jaw members relative to the body and each other for clamping the object between the clamping interfaces of the jaw members via a clamping force in a direction that is orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the object, wherein each jaw member comprises: a jaw arm; and a gripping head, wherein the jaw arm is attached to the body and the gripping head, the gripping head providing the clamping interface, the jaw arm being attached to the gripping head via an elastomer member; wherein at least one of the gripping heads of the jaw members comprises a vibrator device for vibrating the gripping head such that the gripping head is couplable to the object in vibratory engagement to allow mutual vibration between the gripping head and the object in a direction that is parallel with a longitudinal axis of the object when the object is clamped between the clamping interfaces; and wherein the elastomer member is arranged to allow relative movement between the gripping head and the jaw arm in a direction that is parallel with a longitudinal axis of the object, whilst transferring the clamping force from the jaw arm to the gripping head.

Abrégé
A double-acting hydraulic impact hammer includes a drop weight and an inner hydraulic piston. The drop weight is arranged to be driven in an upward and downward direction and the drop weight acts on a pile during its downward motion. The piston has a voided internal area defining a piston volume which is arranged to receive a piston rod and along which the piston extends and retracts axially. The piston volume is in sealed hydraulic communication with the hollow rod volume to form a first volume which changes size as the piston moves along the piston rod whereby the application of hydraulic pressure to the first volume biases the piston towards its extended position. The hammer includes a bore and a collar. The collar forms an outer piston having a working surface which when exposed to hydraulic fluid has sufficient surface area to lift the piston and the drop weight.

Abrégé
A double-acting hydraulic impact hammer for pile driving, comprising a drop weight (36) and an inner hydraulic piston(44), the drop weight (36) being mechanically coupled to the inner piston (44) and being arranged to be driven in use, in an upward and downward direction and the drop weight being arranged to act on a pile during its downward motion, the inner piston (44) having a voided internal area (46) defining an inner piston volume which is arranged to receive a hollow piston rod (48) and along which the inner piston (44) is free to extend and retract axially, the inner piston volume (46) being in sealed hydraulic communication with the hollow rod volume (50) to form a composite first hydraulic volume which changes size as the inner piston moves along the piston rod (48) whereby the application of hydraulic pressure to the first volume biases the piston towards its fully extended position, the hammer further including an outer bore (52) surrounding the inner piston (44) and a collar (58) fixed around the outside of the inner piston which fits sealingly in the space defined between the outer bore (52) and the outside of the inner piston (44), the collar forming an outer piston (58).
