A method for locating a tag by a network of sensors using the IEEE 802.15.4a protocol. The reference anchor of the network sends a UWB signal comprising first beacons at regular intervals, and a narrow band signal on an auxiliary channel, comprising second beacons, the second beacons being in synchronous relation with the first beacons. The tag negotiates with a coordinator anchor, via the auxiliary channel, the allocation of an elementary interval within the UWB superframe. When an elementary interval is allocated to the tag, it places its narrow band receiver in standby mode and sends a clap message in the elementary interval.

A method for reconfiguring a network of wireless sensors in which certain nodes, referred to as coordinating anchors, emit beacon signals, and others, referred to as subordinated anchors, receive the signals only for synchronisation purposes. The whole network synchronises from peer to peer via wireless links from a primary anchor, the various nodes being further configured, via an auxiliary channel, from a central server. When a node loses its synchronisation, one or more subordinated anchors can be transformed into coordinating anchors by the central server so as to restore the synchronisation of the node. Likewise, when an electronic tag moves through the network, subordinated anchors can be transformed dynamically into coordinating anchors in order to ensure the synchronisation of the tag.
The present invention relates to a handover method for a tag in a wireless sensor network having a cellular architecture. At the tag or the coordinating anchor, the distances separating the tag from the different coordinating anchors in the cell are used to determine if the tag is in a coverage area of the cell. If the tag is not in a coverage area of the cell, the tag searches for the beacon signal from neighbouring cells that has the strongest power over a plurality of superframes. If this power value satisfies a selection criterion, the tag establishes a link with the coordinating anchor of this new cell and breaks the link with the coordinating anchor of the previous cell.
