A method and system are provided for clarifying water by passing water through one or more reactor canisters having a flow-through cartridge containing a composition for flocculating or settling solids suspended in the water. After passing through the reactor canisters, the water flows into a primary settling tank to allow solids to precipitate therefrom. The water then flows over a weir into a secondary settling tank to allow further precipitation of suspended solids remaining in the water. The water can then pass through tubular settling media to aid in further precipitation of solids therefrom, and then flow into an outlet chamber where the now clarified water can be withdrawn.
An apparatus and method are provided for removing ultra fine sediment suspended in water where the apparatus includes a sheet of open weave textile material, such as jute, that has a polymer flocculant applied thereto to provide a floe curtain for the water to flow through such that the suspended sediment can contact the flocculant and precipitate out of the water. The sheet comprises a top edge and a bottom edge with a top border disposed along the top edge of the sheet and a bottom border disposed near the bottom edge of the sheet. The top border comprises a first plurality of spaced-apart grommets disposed therealong. The sheet further comprises a geotextile tube disposed between the bottom edge and the bottom border. Two or more floe curtains can be placed in a spaced-apart configuration in the water to provide stages of successive filtering as the water flows through the floe curtains.
A fluid reaction tank is provided having an inlet vortex tube for receiving fluid having suspended solids therein and to impart a vortex motion on the fluid flowing therethrough into a reactor housing having one or more cartridges containing a flocculant composition. The cartridges can have perforated inner sidewalls to allow contact of fluid with the composition. The cartridges can further have vortex forming ridges therein to impart or to maintain the vortex motion of the fluid flowing through the fluid reaction tank.

A composition, and its method of manufacture, is provided for the settling of solids suspended in liquids passing through a reactor housing containing the composition whereupon the composition can dissolve and enter into the liquid and then contact the suspended solids in the liquid. A system and method of for treating water or sewage is further provided. The system can include a screening tank, a septic tank, a flocculant and mixing reactor, a primary clarifier, a secondary clarifier, a sludge dewatering tank, a surge tank, one or more filter tanks and a disinfection tank. A water reaction tank for reacting water containing suspended solids with a flocculant includes a housing having an input, an output, and a water flow path between the input and the output. The flow path has a mixing section and a reaction section. Sealable flocculant ports are provided for inserting a flocculant into the mixing section of the housing. Each of the mixing section and the reaction section contains baffles. The mixing section baffles encourage turbulent flow to increase contact with the flocculant, and the reaction section baffles encourage turbulent flow and increase the length of the water flow path.
